Joseph Curtiss BURRITT b. January 26, 1817
He was the first child of Joseph BURRITT and AsenathCURTISS. Less than four months before his birth, his parents had moved to Ithaca from Stratford, Connecticut. They had been married in East Haven in 1816.
Joseph BURRITT the father, had served a long apprenticeship with a Connecticut watch repairer and silversmith. When he entered into partnership with William BURDICK in Ithaca, he began a tradition in the jewelry business which carried on through three more generations.
Joseph C. BURRITT joined this father's firm in May 1838 and assumed control over the State Street store in the early 1860's. And 1864 advertisement announced that the firm of "BURRITT, CLARK and Company (formerly J. BURRITT and Son, opposite Ithaca Hotel)" dealt in "Imported and American watches, clocks....silverware...spectacles, musical instruments, spy glasses, microscopes" among many other items. The store offered a range and diversity of goods that far exceeded what was expected of jewelry stores years later.

Joseph Curtiss BURRITT Married Hetty Maria LORD, and they had a family of four children:
a son Edwin Joseph BURRITT joined him in his trade.
Hetty Maria died in 1873 his wife of thirty-four years. He married second Julia ATWATER and had another son by her. On May 22, 1889BURRITT died after falling from a tree he was pruning.

Mr. WILLSON is a Democrat, and has been a hard worker for his party. He has been appointed member of the Health Board, city collector, and school collector. He has also been a delegate to numerous State conventions and a member of the county committee for fifteen years, of which he has been secretary part of the time. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Mr.WILLSON owns a summer cottage at McKinneys, where he spends his vacation. He married, July 11, 1860, Ellen M., daughter of the late Joseph C. BURRITT, and they have two sons.
