Lemuel Yates, son of Amariah & Margaret (Thayer) Yates was born July 23, 1773, some say he was born in Mendontown, Mass. On the 1850 Town of Caroline, Tompkins Co, NY Census records, gives his birth place as Long Island. He came to the Town of Caroline with his father-in-law Francis Norwood Jr., in the spring of 1801 from Apalachin, Tioga Co., NY where his parents had settled. Lemuel and his father-in-law are known as early settlers of the Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY area. Lemuel lived and died in Slaterville Springs, Tompkins Co., NY. He died August 23, 1854 and was buried on his old homestead farm property, known today as the Yates Cemetery. He married in Apalachin, Tioga Co., NY on Feb. 20th 1799 to Lucinda Norwood, daughter of Francis & Lydia (Barney) Norwood. She was born in 1779 and died June 11, 1848 age 67 yrs., 9 mos., 25 dys. She also is buried on the homestead property.

Their children that are known were: Stephen, Amariah, Lydia, Benjamin, Francis, Candice, Miranda, William, Mary, Joseph, and possibly a Jacob P. Yates.

1. Stephen Yates, s/o Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, born Nov. 11, 1799 died Dec. 31, 1875. Married Catherine Bush, born March 20, 1804 died Feb. 16, 1887. Catherine Bush was the dau. of Isaac & Martha Bowne Bush. Stephen and Catherine are buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY.

1a. Chester J. Yates, son of Stephen & Catherine (Bush) Yates, born Sept. 28, 1823 died June 1, 1900. Married Jane M. Evans born Feb. 22, 1829 died Feb. 13, 1891, dau. of Bailey & Charlotte (Crandel) Evans. Their children were: Morris, Warren A., Ada C., Ellen.

a. Morris Evans Yates, son of Chester & Jane Evans Yates, born Sept. 21, 1857 died Dec. 10, 1924, married Oct. 16, 1880 at the Ellis Hotel at Varna, NY, by the Rev. N.M. Wheeler to Jennie Thomas, dau. of John T. & Mary Clinton(Bassett)Thomas. Morris is buried in Groton Rural Cemetery, as follows from cemetery records, Morris E. Yates (d. in Groton) buried on Lot 77, Sec. N died Dec. 10, 1924 ae 67y.

b. Warren A. Yates, son of Chester & Jane Evans Yates born 1853 in Slaterville Springs, NY - died Feb. 19, 1934 in Binghamton, NY. At the time of his marriage he stated he was a Miller by trade. Warren married Alida M. Smally, born Merrick, NY, daughter of Joe Smally and Hannah Wetsel.

c. Ada C. Yates, dau. of Chester & Jane Evans Yates born 1862 died ?. Married John W. Yates, son of M. Yates & Melissa Cooper. In 1892 Caroline Census records Chester age 69, John is age 24, Ada C., age 30, Charlotte age 2, Elizabeth age 62, Charlotte Evans age 82. Caroline marriage records; YATES, John W. From; Caroline, NY, Born - Harford, NY., Cortland Co., age 21, Farmer, son of Marohah (?) YATES & Melissa COOPER married: June 27, 1889 Ada C. YATES From; Caroline, NY, Born; Caroline, NY, age 27, dau. of Chester YATES & Jane EVANS. (father of John could be Amariah Yates, unsure of spelling).

d. Ellen Yates, dau. of of Chester & Jane Evans Yates born 1859 died ?.

1d. James Lemuel Yates, son of Stephen & Catherine Bush Yates, born Sept. 12, 1828 died July 16, 1912 in Lincoln, Ill. He married May 20, 1850 to Susan Norwood.

1f. M. Elizabeth Yates, dau. of Stephen & Catherine Bush Yates, born 1830 died 1905.

1g. Milo H. Yates, son of Stephen & Catherine Bush Yates, born Dec. 30th 1832 died July 16, 1909. He is listed as a carpenter age 50, 1st marriage, born in Caroline, residing in Town of Caroline at the time he married. Milo married Dec. 28, 1882 Harriet E. James, born May 12, 1841 died May 10, 1911. Harriet was the daughter of Arnold & Mariah L. (Straight) James.

1h.Gersham Yates, son of Stephen & Catherine Bush Yates, died Oct. 9, 1836 age 1 yr., 5 mo., 13 dys. He is buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY.

2. Amariah Yates, son of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, born August 6, 1801 died Sept. 9, 1877. Married Phebe Reed, dau. of Belding & Charlotte (Beebe) Reed, born June 16, 1806 died October 24, 1856. Death date on monument is October 24, 1856/Death date on headstone is Nov. 24, 1856. Amariah and Phebe are buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Tompkins Co., NY.

Their children that are known are; Columbia, Charlotte, Lucinda, Harvey, Daniel. Possibly another daugher Polly A.

2a. Polly A. Yates, (unsure if a daughter) born July 25, 1829 died Jan. 27, 1901, married Philo Darlin, Sept. 20, 1825 - Mar. 11, 1907 born Sept. 20, 1825 died Mar. 11, 1907. Darling, Philo - 6th NY Heavy Artilliary- Age 37 years. Enlisted, Dec 31, 1863 at Caroline, mustered in as Private, unassigned, Dec. 31, 1863 to serve 3 years, assigned to Company G, Aug. 1, 1865; mustered out on individual roll, May 27,1865. Polly and Philo are buried in Caroline Grove Cemetery, Town of Caroline, NY. Next to Amariah & Phebe Yates in Yates Cemetery are three children of Philo and Polly A. Darlin. It would seem that if Polly was a dau of Amariah & Phebe Yates, she buried her children next to her parents. Children burials are as follows; George L. Darlin, d. Sept. 11, 1853 ae 2y 4m; George M. Darlin, d. Aug. 11, 1861 ae 2y 8m 24d; Sarepta A. Darlin, d. Aug. 11, 1861 ae 12y 3m 1d . 1880 census records, Berkshire, Tioga Co., has the following for Philo and Polly Darling:

2c. Charlotte Yates, born abt. 1836, married Charles Yaple, they had a daughter Alice Yaple born abt. 1858.

2d. Lucinda Yates, born abt. - she was living with her sister Charlotte Yaple in 1860.

2e. Harvey Yates, born abt. 1841, appears to be a twin with Daniel Yates.

2f. Daniel Yates, born abt. 1841, appears to be a twin with Harvey Yates.

2g. Xzena Yates, born Oct. 28, 1842 died August 15, 1844, buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, NY., next to her parents.

3. Lydia Yates, daughter of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, may be the Lydia who married on Oct. 1, 1832 to William Riley Nash. Lydia was born Nov. 25, 1804 died ?, Central City Nebraska, Merrick Co. They lived at Speedsville, Could be the old area known as Speedsville, near Slaterville Springs. The Nash family researcher say William Riley Nash married Lydia Gates, I blieve this to be in error of spelling of surname. Lydia and William Nash had a son Lemuel Nash that was living in the household with Lemuel Yates in 1850, I believe this could be his grandson and named after him. William Riley Nash was born March 20, 1807 died Feb. 14, 1880 in Central City, Nebraska, Merrick Co., He was the son of Martin & Christina (VanSteenburg) Nash.

Their children that have been found were: Lemuel, Martin, Benjamin F., Frances H., Orlando, John F.

3a. Lemuel Y. Nash born August 15, 1833, died Oct. 8, 1862 in Battle of Chapel Hill, Perryville, KY. He was killed in Battle at Perryville in Civil War - Co. "A", 85th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers, he enlisted on Aug. 15,1862 - died Oct. 8, 1862 , his mother, Lydia, applied for pension in 1867.

3b. Martin Nash born Nov. 24, 1834 died Jan. 7, 1836.

3c. Benjamin Franklin Nash born Sept. 12, 1836 in Speedsville, Town of Caroline, NY. Died Feb. 15, 1884 in Central City, Nebraska, Merrick Co. Married Elvira Jane Porter in 1859, dau. of Stephen W. Porter and Mary Ward. Elvira was born Nov. 26, 1841 died March 15, 1930, in Central City, Nebraska, Merrick Co.

Children: Wallace E, Arch, Hattie, Ella M., Frank Russell.

Information on - Nash, Archy age 25 born Jun 1874 in Nebraska - Stepson to Clark Newcomer; he is Single. His father was born Illinois, mother born New York. 1880 census records for Mead, Merrick Co., Nebraska, Benjamin F. Nash age 44 born NY, father born NY, mother born NY; Elvira J. Nash his wife age 39 born Ill., father born TN., mother born ?; Wallace E. Nash age 12 born Ill, attending school; Harriet Nash age 9 born Ill; Archie M. Nash age 5 born NE; Frank R. Nash age 3 born NE; Nash (not named) male age 5 months born NE.

3d. Frances H. Nash (female) born Oct. 1, 1838 in Speedsville, Town of Caroline, NY.

3e. Orlando Nash born May 1st 1840 died Dec. 6, 1841.

3f. John F. or E. Nash born Sept. 28, 1842 in Speedsville, Town of Caroline, NY. Served in Civil War.

I believe they moved out of Tompkins Co., before 1850, then sold land in 1852.

4. Benjamin Yates, son of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, born abt. 1804 died Oct. 5, 1875 age 71 yrs. Married Henrietta Maria (________) who was born abt. 1806 died Dec. 31, 1882 age 76 yrs. They are buried in Willow Glen Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. Their children that have been found are; Adelaide, Martin H., Caroline E., (could be more children?) (Record found of a Benjamin Yates son of Lemuel & Lucinda Yates, married Maria Marsh, this could be Henrietta Maria Marsh. A Benjamin Yates in found living in Harford, Cortland Co., NY. In the will index, there is also a Benjamin Yates, and Maria Yates found having wills.

4a. Caroline E. Yates, (Believe this is a daughter, she is buried on the cemetery lot. born April 22, 1822 died April 25, 1899, married Wm. M. Roe, born April 18, 1833 died Oct. 24, 1912. Both are buried in Willow Glen Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. ROE, William M. - Age 28 years. Enlisted, Aug 14, 1862, at Dryden to serve 3 years. Mustered in as Corporal, Co. G, Oct 8, 1862; Wounded in action, July 20, 1864 at Peach Tree Creek, GA. Promoted to Sergeant, June 1, 1865; Mustered out with company, july 20, 1865 at Washington DC.

4b. Adelaide Yates, dau. of Benjamin & Henrietta Yates, born abt. 1837 died Nov. 21, 1868 age 31 yrs., 1 mo., 4 dys., married Andrew J. Carpenter. Adelaide is buried in Willow Glen Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY next to her parents. Record found on Andrew J. Carpenter, born 1834 in Harford, Cortland Co., N. Y. He married (1) Adelaide Yates, before 1860. She was born 1837, and died 1868. He married (2) Clarissa E. Pierce, August 12, 1869. She was born 1845, and died August 13, 1908.

4b2. Morovah David Yates Carpenter, born 1862 died March 25, 1953. He married Jenna A. Rood in1885, daughter of Reuben& Jane Glezen Rood. She was born 1864 died 1910.

iii. Andrew Truman "A.T." Carpenter, born Sept. 1897, Harford, Cort. Co., NY, died 1980, Harford, Cort., Co., NY. He married Mary Velma Ketchum, born June 13, 1898, died June 1978, in Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY.

Children of Andrew Carpenter & his 2nd wife Clarissa Pierce; Cora B., b. 1871 d. 1890, Buried in Virgil Rural Cemetery, Cort. Co., NY; Jay M. Carpenter, b. 1878 d. May 25, 1937; Lee J. Carpenter, b. 1880, Harford, Cort. Co., NY., d. Feb. 12, 1920.

4c. Martin H. Yates, son of of Benjamin & Henrietta Yates, born abt. 1842 died March 14, 1918 age 76.

Listed under his name on the monument is Betsy Ann Yates, unsure if this is a wife or a sister? Dates are, died Nov. 16, 1877 age 35 yrs. There is a Martin Yates listed in Harford, Cortland Co., NY business directory in 1889. Also listed on the Benjamin Yates Monument are the following: they must be grandchild to Benjamin, but unsure who the parents are. Fred Yates d. March 28, 1878 ae 6 yrs.; Little Wesley no dates, name only. Record was found of a Martin Yates who married Elizabeth Brigham, this could be her. 1880 census Harford Cortland Co., NY has the following: Martin Yates age 38 widowed, Maria his mother age 75 born in Ct.; Warren Rood age 26 servant; Clara Rood age 20 niece servant

4d. Maroviah Yates, is also credited to being his son of of Benjamin & Henrietta Yates, Date of birth abt. 1833 (per 1880 Hartford, Cortland Co., NY census records, [Per record of Pastor Steve Rogers]. This Maroviah Yates married Melissa Elizabeth Wolfe. Melissa was a Red Cross Nurse during the Civil War. 1880 census records gives her age as 40 years, born Pa., both her parents were born in PA. (note; Record is found in Caroline Marriage records of Marohah (sp?) wife Melissa Cooper, see below under John W. Yates).

They had a least 3 sons, and 1 daughter; dau. Liew Yates born in MI. abt. 1868. Sons were John, and William Henry, the other children are unknown.

4d 1. John W. Yates, son of Maroviah Yates, born abt. 1866/1867. 1880 census Hartford, Cortland Co., NY, states his age was 10, making him born abt. 1870. John married Ada C. Yates, born 1862 died ?. In 1892 Caroline Census records Chester age 69, John is age 24, Ada C., age 32, Charlotte age 2, Elizabeth age 62, Charlotte Evans age 82. Caroline marriage records; YATES, John W. From; Caroline, NY, Born - Harford, NY., Cortland Co., age 21, Farmer, son of Marohah A. YATES & Melissa COOPER married: June 27, 1889. Ada C. YATES From; Caroline, NY, Born; Caroline, NY, age 27, dau. of Chester YATES & Jane EVANS. (father of John could be Maroviah Yates, unsure of spelling).

4d 2. William Henry Yates, son of Maroviah Yates, born Nov. 23, 1873 in Philadelphia, Pa. and died on Nov. 1945. He married Ella Mae Watkins on April 8th 1894, she was born April 7, 1881 in Richford, NY, and died April 16, 1902 in Caroline, NY. They had four children: Florence, Maroviah, Georgia, Stephen. William Henry Yates married 2nd to Gertrude Mae Brown. The family settled in Oneonta, NY.

Maroviah Amariah (Bob) Yates, s/o William Henry & Ella Mae Walkins Yates. born Oct. 25, 1896 in Caroline, NY., he married Carrie St. John, he died per SS death index record Jan. 1970; Note: record is found of Carrie Yates, dau. of Linus & Aura (Campbell) St. John, died Jan. 27, 1986, she was the wife of Marovah A. Yates, 6 survivors.

4d2 c. Georgia Yates, d/o William Henry & Ella Mae Walkins Yates, who died in infancy;

4d2d. Stephen Eugene Yates, s/o William Henry & Ella Mae Walkins Yates born April 15, 1902 in Caroline Center, he married Grace Mae Blanchard on Feb. 28, 1927, she was born May 8, 1911, she died April 13, 1988. Stephen died on Sept. 2, 1962 in Buffalo, NY.

4d 3. George S. Yates, son of Maroviah Yates, born abt. 1877 in Harford, NY - 1880 Hartford, Cortland Co., NY gives his age as 1 year old in 1880. Civil War Soldier, 115 Infantry 1st Sargent, Co., M., Married June 27, 1902 to Susie L. Pettigrove, born abt. 1883 daughter of Wm. L. Pettigrove and Martha Harrington.

5. Francis Yates, son of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, born Jan. 27, 1806 died May 1, 1883. Married Lucy B. Marsh born Dec. 31, 1811 died Nov. 112, 1891, they are both buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY.

Children that are known are: Hannah Maria, Susan Marilla, Lydia Marcena.

5a. Hannah Maria Yates, dau. of Francis & Lucy (Marsh) Yates, born May 1, 1836 died November 14, 1921; married John Pettigrove July 23, 1833 died Jan. 21, 1905, he was a civil war veteran. Born Pettigood, John 6th NY Heavy Artilliary - Private, 16th NYHA; transferred to Co. B, this regiment (6th NYHA), May 10, 1864; absent Sick, at muster out of company, no futher record. (Also spelled Pettigrew, Pettigrove). Pettigrew, John Age 31 years. Enlisted Jan. 4th, 1864 at Dryden; mustered in as Private, unassigned, Jan 4th, 1864, to serve 3 years; transferred to Co. B, 6th Artillery, May 10th, 1864; They are buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, NY.

2. Susie L. Pettigrove dau. of William & Martha (Harrington) Pettigrove; 1839 -1899 lived in the Town of Caroline, NY. 1st Married June 27, 1902 by J. B. Wilson To George S. Yates - 115 Infantry 1st Sargent Co. M., Soldier, age 25 born Harford, NY - son of Morovah Yates & Millie E. N. Wolf. Susan married 2nd on Dec. 31, 1919 Frank L. Depew age 48 yrs at time of marriage he was the son of:., Irving Depew & Jenette Johnson.

3. Amy Candace Pettigrove dau. of William & Martha (Harrington) Pettigrove; 1889- died Apr. 1, 1975, she married Oct. 13, 1917 to Fred Halsey Atwater, b. Oct. 3, 1879-1963. Fred was the son of Charles Hall & Lucilla (Halsey) Atwater. Amy & Fred had at least one dau. (name unknown) who married John Patterson. Fred and Amy are buried in Caroline Grove Cemetery, Caroline, Tompkins Co., NY.

5b. Susan Marilla Yates, dau. of Francis & Lucy (Marsh) Yates, born 1839, died March 30, 1899 age 59 yrs. Married Preston Darlin who died Oct. 27, 1918, he served in the Civil War. His first wife was Jane (_____) who died Oct. 27, 1892 age 62 yrs., 4 mo. Darlin, Preston- 6th NY Heavy Artilliary Aged 27 years. Enlisted, Dec. 21, 1863 at Caroline; mustered in as Private, unassigned, DEc 31, 1863, to serve 3 years; transferred to 6th Artillery, unassigned, May 10, 1864. Also spelled DARLING. Caroline Town marriage records: Preston Darlin age 63, 3rd marriage, residing in Richford, NY, born Del. Co., NY, Father John Darlin, Mother Nancy Doane, Married June 18, 1898 by J. J. Smith, Sarah Guimif / Grump (? sp), age 54, residing in Slaterville, born in Dryden, NY, Father Ambros Bull, Mother Cath Callen. Susan is buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, next to her parents. Preston and his first wife are buried in Caroline Grove Cemetery, Town of Caroline, NY.

5c. Lydia Marcena Yates, dau. of Francis & Lucy (Marsh) Yates, born August 14, 1843 died May 24, 1923married Oct. 19, 1863 to Benjamin "Frank" Silsbee, born Aug. 2, 1837 died April 5, 1915. They lived in Harford, Cortland Co., NY. Benjamin, known as Frank was a shoe maker. They moved to Daisy Hollow, in Harford where they lived. They had one daughter named Maggie Silsbee born 1867 and died March 1951, Maggie married Charles Lang who died May 30, 1926, they had a daughter Leona who married first to Arthur Pierce. Leona married 2nd Fred Liddington.

6. Miranda Yates, daughter of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, born abt. 1808, if she is the Miranda that married Benjamin Slater. Listed next door to Joseph C. Yates in 1850 Caroline Census records, and again in 1860. As follows; 1850 - Benjamin Slater age 46, Miranda age 41, Herod (sp?) age 17, Jasper as 14, Adeline age 11, Henry age 9, Lydia age 5; 1860 Caroline Census records - Benjamin Slater age 57, Miranda age 52, Henry age 18, Lydia age 15.

6a. Herod Slater, son of Benjamin & Miranda Yates Slater, born abt. 1833 (could be Sharrard Slater, the following is found in burials at Garret Mandeville Dutch Cemetery in West Slaterville. Sharrad Slater b. Oct. 19, 1833 d. Dec. 24, 1897. Clarrisa , his wife born Sept. 14, 1830 died Jan. 27, 1917; believed to be Clarrisa Heffron. Believed to be the parents to West Munson's wife Lillian Slater.) Living in Danby, NY (1880) is found this Sharrad SLATER age 46, Clarissa age 49, Lillian age 19, Mary age 17, Warren age 11.

6d. Henry Slater, son of of Benjamin & Miranda Yates Slater, born abt. 1841, in 1892 a Henry Slater is living in Town of Caroline, age 49 with wife Anna age 46, and son Charles age 26. (unsure if this is the same Henry Slater). This family is buried in the Charles Mulks Cemetery, Slaterville, NY. as follows:

7. Jacob P. Yates, may be the son of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, born abt. 1813 died April 8, 1891 age 78 yrs. Married Eliza (_______), who died March 22, 1895 age 83 yrs. They are both buried in Willow Glen Cemetery, Town of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. 1850 Dryden Census records has the following; Jacob P. Yates age 35, Eliza age 36, Mary age 10, Charlotte age 8, Henrietta age 5, Susan age 3, with William H. Dunham age 22 living in the same household. There may be more children. Note: Record found where a Jacob P. Yates married on December 27, 1838 Eliza Mosher born Dec. 26, 1812 died March 22, 1896, dau. of James & Orpha Mosher from Dutchess Co., NY.

7a. Mary Yates, dau. of Jacob & Eliza Yates, born abt. 1840, must be the child that married H.H. Williams; Two children on the same cemetery lot of Jacob P. Yates are as follows: Ettie d. Aug. 20, 1874 age 2 yrs., 20 dys.; Venie d. _____6 wks, children of H. H. & M. Williams. In Willow Glen Cemetery, there is also found on Lot 16-6 Horace Williams who died in Dryden, buried 1945 age 75 yrs., with Mary Williams who died in Etna, Town of Dryden, and buried July 22, 1926, no age listed. Unsure if this is the correct H. Williams and Mary Yates., on the same lot are burials for Minnie Hammond, Arthur & Nellie Snyder, Ada Davis, Beulah Davis, John W. Davis, Earl R. Denmark, George Denmark, Lorretta Denmark.

7b. Charlotte Yates, dau. of Jacob & Eliza Yates, born abt. 1842.

7c. Henrietta Yates, dau. of Jacob & Eliza Yates, born about 1844, died June 29, 1866 age 22 yrs. Her name is on the Jacob P. Yates monument, buried next to her parents in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, NY.

7d. Susan Yates, dau. of Jacob & Eliza Yates, born abt. 1847, this could be Elizabeth listed in 1850 census records as being age 3. Elizabeth Yates 1846 with no death date, wife of John K. Reed 1845-1905 are listed on the Jacob P. Yates monument.

7e. Jay Yates, son of Jacob & Eliza Yates, born abt. 1850 died May 28, 1891 age 41 yrs., 10 mo., 24 dys., listed on the Jacob P. Yates monument with the wording of Only son of Jacob & Eliza Yates. Unsure if he ever married. 1880 Dryden,Tompkins Co., NY census records – Yates, Jay age 28, living with G. E. Hanford as a farm laborer.

8. Candice Yates, daughter of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, Name spelled Candace on headstone. Born abt. 1816 died Sept. 13, 1857 are 42 yrs., 7 mos., 1 dy. Married David Belknap born abt. 1808, he was born in PA. 1850 census records has the following: David age 42, Candice age 34, Amos age 18, George age 14, Aurilla age 1. I believe Amos and George could be by another marriage of David's. Buried in Charles Mulks Cemetery, located a short distance from Yates Cemetery, is found a grave for BELKNAP, David W., 1807-1884, unsure if this is the correct David, buried next to him is BELKNAP, BELKNAP, Marilla, wife of David W. Belknap d. Mar. 23, 1849 ae 38y 8m 20d, I believe this could be his first wife. He may have married Candice shortly after the death of Marilla, David and Candice may have named a child after his first wife. Candice/Candace is buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY in a grave right behind Lemuel & Lucinda Yates.

8a. Amos Belknap, born abt. 1832. Believe this may be a step-son to Candice Yates Belknap. (An Amos Belknap is found who married June 7, 1857 to Phebe I. Smiley, unsure if this is the correct Amos.

8b. George Belknap, born abt. 1837. Believe this may be a step-son to Candice Yates Belknap. Buried in Charles Mulks Cemetery is the following: BELKNAP, George E. 1837 - 1862.

8c. Aurilla Belknap, born abt. 1849/1850. Belive this to be the only child that Candice had. Found in Charles Mulks Cemetery buried next to David and Marilla Belknap is the following, BELKNAP, Marilla D. 1850 - 1862, unsure if this is Aurilla.

9. William Yates, son of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates,born abt. 1817 died Sept. 5, 1865 age 48 yrs., 2 mo., 11 dys. In 1850 he was living with his father, and in 1860 he was living with his brother Joseph C. Yates. No wife was found for him, believe he never married. He is buried next to his father, Lemuel Yates in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY.

10. Mary Yates, daughter of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, born April 25, 1819 died Jan. 10, 1862 age 42 yrs., 8 mo., 15 dys. She was living with her father in 1850 in Slaterville Springs, NY. Never married, she is buried next to Candace Belknap in Yates Cemetery.

11. Joseph C. Yates, son of Lemuel & Lucinda (Norwood) Yates, born 1822 died 1900. Married Sally A. Robison, born 1826 died 1910. They are buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY.

11a. Johnnie Yates, son of Joseph & Sally Robinson Yates died October 1, 1861 age 11 yrs., 1 mo., 21 dys., buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY.

11b. Mary Yates, dau. of Joseph & Sally Robinson Yates died Dec. 9, 1861 age 9 yrs., 2 mo., 8 dys., buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY.

11c. Alma Yates, dau. of Joseph & Sally Robinson Yates died Sept. 16, 1861 age 7 yrs., 3 mo., 15 dys., buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY.

11d. Hattie Yates, dau. of of Joseph & Sally Robinson Yates born 1860 died August 1, 1860 age 4 months., buried in Yates Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, Town of Caroline, NY.

11e. Martha G. Yates, born abt. 1855, was living with Joseph C. & Sally A. Yates in 1892, unknown if she was a daughter or some other relation? Caroline Town Marriage records has record this is a daughter of Joseph and Sally. Martha G. Yates, residing in Slaterville, Town of Caroline, born in Slaterville Town of Caroline, age 35 (error in age) daughter of J. C. Yates & Sally A. Robison was married by J. J. Smith on July 22, 1900 to Daniel Tanner, residing in Harford, born in Harford, NY, age 55 yrs., a Carpenter, son of Selma Tanner and Elvina Jackson. Methodist Church records have a Martha G. Yates married July 22, 1900 to David (looks like Davis).
