BIOGRAPHY OF VALENTINE MIDDAUGH

Photograph of Valentine MiddaughValentine was born in Caroline Township, Tompkins County, New York.  He was the son of Richard and Angeline Smith Middaugh.  He married, probably in Tompkins County, sometime before 1859, Survilia Robinson.  They moved to Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin before 1860 and had two children, Henry R. and Mary Elva.  Mary died before her first birthday, in March of 1863, and is buried in the Robinson family plot in Tompkins County.  Sometime before 1865, Valentine moved his family to Minnesota and served in the First Minnesota Heavy Artillery, Company L, from January to September of 1865.  Valentine’s wife Survilia died in 1867.  She is also buried with her family in Tompkins County.  After 1870, Valentine left Henry with his sister Angeline to raise.

Valentine married again, in 1869, in Dodge County, Minnesota, to Anna Fairbanks.  Apparently they never had any children.  Valentine died in Dodge County in 1889.
