My great-grandfather TheodoreDwight Tryon was born in Washington, Litchfield, Connecticut 8/25/1847. He was the eldest son of John Smith Tryon and his wife Electa Blake. His brother, James L. was born 9/10/1852.

The Tryons migrated to Tioga County about 1855. After 1870, but before 1880 Theodore and his parents moved to the town of Caroline. They eventually moved to West Slaterville. Both Theodore and his father were blacksmiths.

Theodore was married first to Laurania Mead who died in 1873. On Sept 22 1886 Theodore married Anna Eliza Hamilton at the Hamilton home on Brearley Hill. Anna is the daughter of Joseph Hamilton and Ann Elizabeth Sullivan.

Anna and Theodore had two daughters, Mabelle Electa (my grandmother) and Beatrice Amanda. After 1900, but before 1910 Theodore moved his family to Ithaca, NY. Mabelle married Burton Nelson Middaugh son of Charles Middaugh and Nettie Oliver. Beatrice married Francis Chauncey Smith.

Mabelle was a milliner and also had her own hair salon which she operated out of her home at 314 Farm Street in Ithaca for many years.

Beatrice received advanced education in music and taught piano.

Theodore’s brother James married Ella Heffron daughter of James and Candis Heffron. James was a carpenter.

Generation One

1.  John Smith¹ Tryon was born on 26 May 1822 at Litchfield, CT.  He married Electa Anne Blake, daughter of Joseph Blake and Louisa Osborn, on 24 Feb 1846.  He died on 24 Feb 1894 at Slaterville Springs, Tompkins County, NY, at age 71.

     He lived in 1850 at Washington, Litchfield County, CT.  He lived in 1880 at Caroline, Tompkins County, NY.

     Children of John Smith¹ Tryon and Electa Anne Blake both born at Litchfield, CT, were as follows:

                          2.          i.     Theodore Dwight² was born on 27 Aug 1847.  He married Laurania Mead, daughter of Daniel L. Mead and Rachael Quimby, circa 1872.  He married Anna Eliza Hamilton, daughter of Joseph Hamilton and Ann Elizabeth Sullivan, on 22 Sep 1886 at Central Chapel, Tompkins County, NY.  He died on 15 Aug 1924 at age 76.

                                       ii.     James L. was born on 10 Sep 1852.  He married Ella Heffron, daughter of James L Heffron and Candis (--?--).  He died on 23 Jan 1933 at age 80.

Generation Two

2.  Theodore Dwight² Tryon (John¹) was born on 27 Aug 1847 at Litchfield, CT.  He married Laurania Mead, daughter of Daniel L. Mead and Rachael Quimby, circa 1872.  He married Anna Eliza Hamilton, daughter of Joseph Hamilton and Ann Elizabeth Sullivan, on 22 Sep 1886 at Central Chapel, Tompkins County, NY.  He died on 15 Aug 1924 at Ithaca, Tompkins County, NY, at age 76.

     He lived in 1850 at Washington, Litchfield County, CT.  He lived in 1870 at Candor, Tioga County, NY.  He lived in 1880 at Caroline, Tompkins County, NY.  He lived in 1900 at Caroline, Tompkins County, NY.  He lived in 1910 at Ithaca Ward 5, Tompkins County, NY.  He lived in 1920 at Ithaca Ward 5, Tompkins County, NY.

     There were no children of Theodore Dwight² Tryon and Laurania Mead.

     Children of Theodore Dwight² Tryon and Anna Eliza Hamilton both born at Slaterville Springs, Tompkins County, NY, were as follows:

                          3.          i.     Mabelle Electa³ was born on 26 May 1888.  She married Berton Nelson Middaugh, son of Charles A. Middaugh and Nettie Oliver, on 29 Jun 1909 at Ithaca, Tompkins County, NY.  She died in Aug 1972 at Drexel Hill, Delaware County, PA, at age 84.

                          4.          ii.     Beatrice Amanda was born on 10 Dec 1889.  She married Francis Chauncey Smith.  She died on 4 Dec 1973 at Danvers, MA, at age 83.
