June of 2001 updates and corrections were provided by Karen Dickson
Our Town of Ulysses Coordinator.
Another check was done on May 23, 2002 by Janet M. Nash & Cathy Knauff. Some headstones that were recorded in 2001 were not readable in 2002. The history of the people buried in these family cemeteries is slowing fading away. That is why we find it so important to record the inscriptions before they are gone.
Note:
We would like to thank the Town of Ulysses, and the two gentlemen that have been doing
just a wonderful job in mowing and trimming this cemetery. This cemetery
contains some of the oldest residents in the Town of Ulysses. Benjamin
& Richard Goodwin and families came to this area in 1794 and raised
fruit trees, crops etc., they also had a boat dock, where people and supplies
came & went for Trumansburg and surrounding area. Referred to
as Goodwin Point, this is where Abner Treman, founder of Trumansburg came
when he got caught out in a snow storm coming from Ithaca, and where he
lost part of one foot and all of another to frost bite due to walking the
whole way, having his feet treated by warm water, instead of snow, as the
Goodwin parents were away. Headstone inscriptions recorded May 23,
2002 - Starting at entrance by driveway.
Thank you, Tom Wakula, for donating headstone photos for this cemetery.
You are our
visitor since March 16, 2005.
