Letter Two

Between Oct 19, 1853 & Dec 18, 1854

Dear Sister and Brother
I now seat myself for the purpose of writing a few lines telling the passing events as they pass along we are in usual health Mother (Eleanor (FERRY) BROWN) does not enjoy first health but Father (David BROWN Jr) is pretty well for him considering the weather we received your letter 2 or 3 weeks ago but have not answered it for the press of business has kept us very busy we have been sewing for other folks as much as we could Uncle Joseph BERRY is dead he died a few weeks ago and Aunt Betsey ( (BROWN) BERRY) is living alone or Wilson (Nelson ?) JACOBS is with her they have had great times about the will I do not know how it will be settled so I cannot write it to you at present I have commenced going to school we have over 90 schollars and school has not been commenced but 2 days I do not think I shall like the school as well as I did last winter but I do not know we have to get up one too time and recite our lessons and then if we do not have every word perfect he will mark us and then read it to the whole school David (MORTON ?) goes too he says that he does not care anything about standing up to recite but I do I go free if I did not I would not go a single day there is a teachers class consisting of twenty five and they go free the state taxes pay for the class and I am one of them I board to Elder DYEs and so does David (B) MORTON and Miles (MORTON) and Polly (MORTON) I expect we shall have great times together Oh do write me a composition do do we had to throw by our old books and buy new ones the Arithmatic is Blanchard and Spencers grammer the inhabiting of Groton are getting very much woked they have very livly meetings the Baptists and Presbyerians have gone in together I guess there was over 20 that went forward for prayer the Methodist are having a dreadful time they have the power and shout and everything else I do not know how many have gone forward but I presume as many as 40 or 50 James WILSON is married he was married last week James and Lydia E ( (BROWN) WILLIAMS ) get along I guess pritty well but I do not know for I have not been there in quite a number of weeks she has commenced taking music lessons dont get married too quick but you may get married but you may as soon as you wish too for I am getting in quite a hury and I suppose I have to wait for both of you Jim married a CLOSE gall that hired in mother I wonder if you have kept on gaining fleshy since I was there I am very fleshy I weigh 123 and I never weighed only 105 before cant wear anything in the shape of a dress I should write more if it was not for sending so much paper you know they weigh it and if it weighs a little more than it ought to I suppose I have to pay more now answer right off and I will do the same Good night Betsey
