Abisch, Dr. David: Newfield – Dr. David Abisch, 85 of 28 Pearl Street, died Friday, December 21, 1990 at Tompkins Community Hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 23, 1990 at Temple Beth-El with Rabbi Scott Glass officiating. Dr. Abisch was born on January 1, 1905 in Austria. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Berlin in 1930 and practiced medicine in Germany until 1939 at which time he fled from Nazi Germany to Shanghai, China. During his twelve years in China, Dr. Abisch was active as chief resident of the Isolation Hospital for Infectious Diseases and as a private practitioner. Upon arrival in the United States in 1951 and completion of residency at the Cumberland Hospital in Brooklyn, Dr. Abisch established himself as family physician Newfield where he served the community for over thirty years. Dr. Abisch was a member of the Tompkins County Medical Society, the Medical Society of the State of New York, the American Medical Association and was a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Abisch is survived by his wife, Martha Abisch of Newfield, daughter, Rita Melan of Ithaca. His son-in-law and two granddaughters, several nephews and nieces.

Agard, Merritt M.:  Holmes Beach, FL – Merritt M. Agard, 87, of 527 74th Street Holmes Beach, FL died Tuesday December 12, 1989 after a brief illness. Mr. Agard was born in Enfield, NY, son of Arthur and Jessie (Tucker) Agard. He lived most of his life in Trumansburg, NY area.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maude Emma (Hardenbrook) Agard, daughter, Carol Nunn of Holmes Beach, FL, a son, J. Richard Agard of Ithaca. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Mr. Agard was predeceased by his sister, Adeline Tamburino of Bradenton, FL and brother William Agard of Trumansburg. Mr. Agard was a 50 year member of the Trumansburg Masonic Lodge, he was a member of the Sahab Shriner Temple of Sarasota, FL. He also belonged to the Hi-12 Club in Holmes Beach, FL and the Country Club of Ithaca. He was a charter member of the Trumansburg Golf Club and a member of the Key Royale Golf Club of Holmes Beach. He was a lifetime member of the Jacksonville United Methodist church and a member of Roser Memorial Church of Holmes Beach. In 1946 he and his wife Maude Emma purchased Taughannock Farms Inn, which they operated with their daughter and husband, Carol and Ed Nunn for many years. Albright, Catherine Z.: Catherine Z. Albright, 77, of 602 Hudson, formerly of Newfield, died Wednesday, February 16, 1994 in Tompkins Community Hospital She was born in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Louis and Christiane Glaser Zeller. Catherine was a member of the Cornell University Class of 1937 where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her Masters in elementary Education from Cortland State. She retired in 1982 from the Newfield School District after teaching fourth grade at Newfield Elementary for many years. She is survived by her children, Louis and Marilyn Albright of Ithaca and Janice and Robert Sturm of Newfield. Her grandchildren, Richard and Michelle Sturm of Spencer, Laurel Rockhill of Newfield and Adam and Amy Albright of Ithaca. She is also survived by her brother, Lois Zeller of Coram, NY, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Bangs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Anderson, Ruth Dassance:  Newfield – Ruth Dassance Anderson, 97, of 130 Bank Street, Newfield, died Wednesday, June 21, 1989 in Tompkins Community Hospital. Born in Newfield, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Cora Block Dassance. She had been a Republican Committee woman of Newfield and was a seamstress employed with J.C. Penny, Ithaca.  She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Anderson Hubbell of Montour Falls, six grandchildren, 17 gr-grandchildren, four gr-gr-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two sons, William Dassance Anderson and Donald L. Anderson.  Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Newfield, NY.

Barto, Ida Mae:  Ida Mae Barto, 99, formerly of 119 Irving Place, Ithaca, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1991 in Lakeside Nursing Home. Born May 29, 1891 in Trumansburg, she was the daughter of the late Weeden S. and Martha Clock Smith. Mrs. Barto was a member of the First Methodist Church of Ithaca and a charter member of the church’s Loyal Daughters Class. She was very active in the Eastern Star and White Shrine organizations. Mrs. Barto is survived by a sister-in-law, Edith Smith of Greeley, CO, a niece, Carol Randel of Greeley, CO, a nephew, Earl W. Smith of Ocala, FL, 7 grand nieces and nephews, 14 great grand nieces and nephews and several cousins.  E.C. Wagner Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Beach, Jeannette:  Newfield - When Jeannette Beach died two weeks before Christmas 1985, Newfield lost part of its history. From 1956 until her retirement in 1983, Beach served as the Newfield town clerk. It was her responsibility to assist residents in obtaining required licenses and paying their bills. She issued licenses for marriages, dogs, hunting and fishing; she collects the town’s water and tax bills. Because licenses and taxes touch almost everyone’s life, Beach quickly came to know everyone and they her.“ She will be missed by many,” said Ethelyn Tompkins, her deputy town clerk for nine years. Tompkins noted that, for the first 20 years of Beach’s service the town clerk’s office was in her Bank Street home. Newfielders would stop by her house at all times, including evenings and weekends, to buy a license or pay a bill. “She was so gracious, she never turned anyone away,” Tompkins said. Jeannette Beach was born in Newfield 77 years ago, the daughter of Sylvenus and Lillian Sincebaugh Cornish. Berggren, Patricia M.: Patricia M. Berggren, 76, of 659 Van Buskirk Gulf Road, Newfield, died Tuesday, December 20, 1988 at her home. She was born in Corning, daughter of the late William and Mattie Reyno Stenger. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Newfield and was active in the Sunday school there. She was a member of the Kellogg’s Corners Home Bureau and Tompkins County Cooperative Extension. She is survived by her husband, Roy Berggren of Newfield, five sons, Charles Berggren, William Berggren. Roland Berggren, Richard Berggren and Melvin Berggren all of Newfield. 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three sisters, Eleanor Philhower of Trenton, N.J., Marian Staiger of Maggies Valley, NC and Emma Rouse of Elmira, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Blauvelt, Stewart: Steward Blauvelt, 86, of 70 Shaffer Road, died Wednesday, June 3, 1987 at his home He was born in West Danby, a son of the late Fred and Belle Piper Blauvelt. He owned and operated a farm in Newfield most of his life. He was a member of the Newfield Grange No 242, and the Odd Fellows for more than 60 years. He and his wife, Bertha Chaffee Blauvelt celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1984. In addition to his wife, who lives in Newfield, he is survived by a son, Jerry D. Blauvelt of Newfield, a sister-in-law Jennie Blauvelt of Newfield, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Bangs Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Newfield.

Browning, James:  Newfield – James Browning, 78, of Meadowbrook Court, died Monday, June 27, 1983 in Tompkins Community Hospital. He was born in England, had lived in this area for 65 years. He had retired from Morse Chain where he had been a machinist for many years. He was a member of the Machinist Local 1607 and the Masonic Lodge of Newfield. Mr. Browning is survived by his wife, Della Miller Browning of Newfield; two daughters: Shirley Saunders and Cora Bellis, both of Newfield; two sons: William Hayes and David Browning, both of Newfield; several grandchildren; and one sister, Peg Farkner of Wilmington, Delaware.  Bangs Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Burial in Trumbulls Corners Cemetery.

Burdick, Grace McFall:  Mrs. Grace M. Burdick, 90, a resident of Oak Hill Manor for the past two years died Friday morning, May 27, 1983 at Tompkins Community Hospital. Mrs. Burdick was born March 10, 1893 in the Town of Danby, the daughter of Dorous H. and Eleanor Kane Kettles McFall. Mrs. Burdick had resided in Tompkins County most of her life. She was a member of the Golden Age Club of the Salvation Army in Ithaca. Her husband, Horace H. Burdick died June 25, 1977.  Mrs. Burdick is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Eleanor) Shaw of 195 Irish Settlement Road, Freeville; three granddaughters: Mrs. Harold (June) Hall of Ithaca, Mrs. Michael (Diane) Grennell, a missionary in Nairobi, Kenya [see obit]

Caslick, Richard: Richard Caslick, 67, of 1438 East Shore Drive, formerly of 108 Christopher Circle, died Monday, May 29, 1989, in Tompkins Community Hospital. He was born in Newfield, son of the R. Bruce and Mary Tompkins Caslick. Prior to his retirement in 1972, he had been an American history and social studies teacher at Ithaca High School for 18 years. Mr. Caslick received his master’s in teaching from Cornell University and was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Vida Uselton Caslick of Ithaca, two sons, J. Frederick Caslick and David R. Caslick, both of Portland, Ore; two daughters, June D. Caslick of Ithaca and Susan R. Schell of Interlaken, one brother, James Caslick of Newfield; two sisters, Virginia Slater of Newfield and Janet Johnson of Camillus; and one granddaughter. Chaffee, Vivian Dee: Newfield – Vivian Dee Chaffee, 70, of 62 Bank Street, Newfield, died Thursday, July 5, 1984 at her home. She was born April 30, 1914 in Wilton, ND, a daughter of the late Ira and Laverna Newman Wright. Mrs. Chaffee was a member of the People’s Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Maynard Chaffee of Newfield, three daughters, Laverna Adams of Newfield, Judy Steve of Ovid, and Joann Morse of Moravia, four sons, Philip Chaffee of Ithaca, Terry Chaffee of Union City, TX, Thomas Chaffee of Olympia, WA and Jack Chaffee of Orlando, FL; 22 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Wright of Mesa, AZ and Lynn Wright of Dryden; and a sister, Stella Alvorde of Locke. Champion, Margaret Armstrong: Interlaken – Margaret Nunn Armstrong Champion, 58, of R.D. 1 died in Tompkins Community Hospital, Monday, January 17, 1983. She is survived by five sons, Michael Armstrong of Newfield, John Champion of Interlaken, Jim Champion of Dallas, TX, Alan Champion of Covert and Raymond Champion of Mecklenburg. Also surviving are four daughters, Patty Hallett of Danby, Grace Riddle of Trumansburg, Betty Jean Champion of Orlando, Fl, and Tina Champion of Interlaken; a brother, Edward Nunn of Holmes Beach, FL and 14 grandchildren. Crance [Crace-sic], Jeffrey W.: Dryden – Jeffrey W. Crance, 24 of 6 Main Street, Dryden died Wednesday, December 27, 1989 at Tompkins Community Hospital. He was born February 22, 1965 of Clyde M. & Judith (Swaney) Crance in Ithaca. He was the owner and operator of Jeffrey’s Balloons in Ithaca. A member of Peoples Baptist Church, Newfield. Survived by his mother, Judith (Swaney) Crance of Zephyr Hills, FL, wife, Cynthia Diloia of Groton, NY, aunt & uncle Jody and Charles Drake of Ithaca, NY, uncle & aunt William and Sally Schlobohm of Newfield, NY. Cutter, Duane Starr:  Pensacola, FL – Duane Starr Cutter, CDR, USN, 43, of Pensacola, FL, died Friday, October 11, 1991, when his T-34C Turbo Mentor crashed during a routine training flight. He was Commanding Officer, Training Squadron TWO at NAS Whiting Field, Pensacola, FL. A 1966 graduate of Newfield Central School and after receiving a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, Duane joined the Navy in 1971 and was commissioned as a Naval Aviator in 1973. Services were held October 16, 1991 at the Navel Aviation Chapel with burial in Barrancas National Cemetery. 

Cutter, Sharon J.:  Newfield – Sharon J. Cutter, 36 of 70 Bank Street Newfield Died Sunday, October 20, 1991 in Saint Joseph Hospital, Elmira. She was born in Cortland, daughter of Alfred and Nancy Hale Barrows.  She had been employed for the past 15 years as an administrative aide at Cornell University.  Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Newfield.

Davis, Georgia L. Born: November 11, 1919, Jasper, NY.  Died: March 19, 1993.Interment: Hayts Cemetery, Ithaca, New York.

Dzikiewicz, Marcia K. - Marica K. Dzikiewicz  47, of 1068 VanKirk Road, Newfield went home to be with her Lord on Friday, April 1, 1994 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA after a short illness. She was born January 1, 1947 in Waverly, the daughter of Roscoe and Helen (Selman) Benjamin. Her mother predeceased her in February 1988.  Marcia is survive her husband, Peter after 23 years of marriage. Her children, Kenneth, Jason and Kristin all of Newfield, sister and brother-in-law Connie and Bernard Brown of VanEtten, a half brother and his wife, Charles and Mary Dekle of VanEtten, nieces Marcy and Candice Brown of VanEtten and Mrs. Carol (Nicole) Alve of Spencer, many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.  Marica was a member of the People’s Baptist Church in Newfield. She was a dedicated bowling team coach for the Special Olympics and actively involved in the Unit 17 of the NYS Special Olympics. Everhart, Adrian C.:  Newfield – Adrian C. Everhart, 83 of 96 Piper Road, Newfield, died Tuesday, January 22, 1991 at Tompkins Community Hospital. He was born May 5, 1907 in Newfield where he resided throughout his lifetime. In the early 1930s he managed the Market Basket and Acme Market Stores in Ithaca. He worked several years with his father as a carpenter and builder and ended his working career as a bookkeeper for Agway and Garage DeFrance in Ithaca. As a member of People’s Baptist Church in Newfield he served as Deacon and for many years as Church Treasurer, community service included membership in the Newfield School Board and as Town Clerk. Mr. Everhart is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pearl Wetherbee Everhart, daughter and son-in-law Bonita and Lee Nelson of Ridgecrest, North Carolina. Sons and daughters-in-law Dale and Helen Everhart and Dean and Suzanne Everhart, both of Newfield, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild. Cousins several nieces and nephews. Georgia, Dorothy L.:  Dorothy L. Georgia, 79, of 1113 Elmira Road, Newfield and later of 308 Burdge Hill Road, died Monday, March 7, 1988 in the Lakeside Nursing Home. She was born in Ithaca, the daughter of the late Walter and Grace Harris. She was a member of the People’s Baptist Church in Newfield. Ms. Georgia was the widow of Kenneth Georgia, who died in 1984. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Phyllis VanAllen of Newfield, one son, William Georgia of Hilton Head, SC: six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: one niece and two nephews. E. C. Georgia, Kenneth D.  Kenneth D. Georgia, 78, of 1113 Elmira Road, Newfield, died Wednesday, May 9, 1984 at Tompkins Community Hospital. Mr. Georgia was a member of the People’s Baptist Church of Newfield and a past missionary treasurer of the church board. He was a past president of the Newfield Central School Board and a past president of the Town of Newfield Library Association.  He retired in 1970 after 42 years of service as an accountant with the New York State College of Agriculture at Cornell University. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Georgia of Newfield, a son and daughter-in-law, William and Virginia Georgia of Hilton Head, SC, a daughter and son-in-law Phyllis and James VanAllen of Newfield: six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Hill, Dorothy Cox Payne:  Horseheads – Dorothy Cox Payne Hill, 84, formerly of Danby and Newfield, died Monday, September 12, 1988 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. She was born in Lansing, a daughter of Sebring and Aseneath Webster Cox.  She was the widow of Joseph Payne and Fred Hill.  He is survived by her daughter Mrs. Betty Ussery of Metarie, LA, brothers Sebring Cox of Burdett, Herbert Cox of Horseheads, and Robert Cox of Memphis, NY; a sister, Mrs. Alma Matone of Raleigh, NC and several nieces and nephews.

Howell Areva J.:  Newfield – Areva J. Howell, 86, of 30 Fishkill Road, died Sunday, July 17, 1983, at home. Born February 25, 1897, in Hickstown, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Irene Bachlor Grover. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude A. Decker of Cayuta, three grandsons: Clarence and Eugene VanZile, both of Newfield, and James VanZile of Waterloo; three granddaughters: Phyllis Tursck of Ithaca, Donna Hines of Cayuta and Lynda Blanford of Jacksonville, NC: 12 great- grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Flora Rodabaugh of Horseheads. Hubbell, Clifford N.: Montour Falls – Clifford N. Hubbell, 70, of Jackson Hill Road, Montour Falls, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1986, at Schuyler Hospital. Mr. Hubbell was a town supervisor for the Town of Montour, a 50-year member of Odessa Baptist Church, a member of Schuyler County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Mechanics  Club. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Anderson Hubbell of Montour Falls, a daughter, Claudia Winter of Anaheim, CA, a son, Michael Hubbell of Spencer, three grandchildren, a sister, Violet Stowe of Perry, a brother Stephen Hubbell of Mohawk and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Odessa Baptist Church with the Revs. George and Judy White and David Parker officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Jenkins, Stella H.: Newfield – Stella H. Jenkins, 83 of 430 Hines Road, Newfield, died Monday, October 1, 1984 at Tompkins Community Hospital. She was born July 27, 1901 in Scranton, PA. Mrs. Jenkins was a life-long member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church and has attended Trumbulls Corners Community Church. She is survived by three sons, George Jenkins of Olivia, NC, Carol Jenkins of Camden and Robert Jenkins of Newfield; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Kreiger of Lubbock, Texas, and a brother, John Hitchings of Owego. Kenjerski, Arletha Curtis:  Arletha Curtis Kenjerski, 71, of 3134 Van Dorn Corners Road, Ithaca, died Sunday, October 20, 1991 in Genesee Hospital, Rochester. She was born in Veron, NY, daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Curtis. She retired from Tompkins Community Hospital where she had worked as a Nurses Aide for 18 years. She is survived y her husband, John J. Kenjerski of Ithaca, her sons, John J. Kenjerski, Jr. of Ithaca and Gary Kenjerski of St. Peters burg, FL; her daughters, Linda Willis of Houston, TX and Judy Zaharis of Ithaca. Kippola, Helen K.: Helen Koistinen Kippola, 74, of Phoenix, Arizona, and formerly of Newfield, died July 10, 1986 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Phoenix. Mrs. Kippola was born in Toronto, Canada. She moved from Newfield to Arizona 34 years ago. She was a member of the Laestradian Congregation of Phoenix. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Kippola of Phoenix; a daughter, Judy Glick of Huntington Beach, CA, a brother, Karl Koistinen of Etna, three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Margaret) Saunders of Homer, Mrs. Thomas (Eileen) Keane of Turkey Hill and Mrs. Arnold (Hilda) Tormanen of Phoenix.

Knapp, Frances:  Frances Knapp born: January 17, 1899, Gold, PA. Died: February 2, 1991. Place of service: United Methodist Church, Newfield, NY. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Newfield, NY.

Knuutila, Helmi Maki:  Newfield – Helmi Maki Knuutila, 71, of Newfield died Saturday, September 29, 1990 at her daughter’s home. A private funeral is planned. Burial will be in LaRue Cemetery in North Van Etten.  Allen-Manzer Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Lambert, Alice Westbrook:  Cortland – Alice Westbrook Lambert, 67, of 42 Church Street, Cortland died Sunday, September 16, 1984 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse following a long illness. Born in Ithaca, she was a daughter of the late Vernon and Blanch Russell and was the widow of Earl Westbrook.  Mrs. Lambert lived in the Newfield area most of her life and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Cortland. She had worked for many years at Montgomery Ward, Ithaca Reconstruction Home and Cortland Nursing Home. Before retiring she was head cook for the Senior Citizens’ Breakfast Club. She is survived by three sons, Earl Westbrook of Cortland, Carl Westbrook of Williamsburg VA, and Paul Westbrook of Groton; two sisters, Lillian Russell of Brookdale, CA, and Glendora Vowell of Haughton, LA; nine grandchildren and three nieces.  E.C. Maki, Eugene E.  Eugene E. Maki, 73, of 309 Benjamin Hill Road, Newfield, died Friday, May 26, 1989 at Tomkins County Hospital. He was born in Newfield, a son of the late Emil and Eva Nara Maki. He is survived by his wife, Elina Maki of Newfield, four sons, four sisters, Viena Neimi of West Palm Beach, FL, Violet Paige of Trumansburg, Velma Hill of Spencer and Bertha Russell of Trumansburg; a brother, Elmer Maki of Newfield, 15 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Judith A. Martin died in 1974. Mr. Maki was a farmer in Newfield most of his life. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Spencer and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for more than 19 years. She was employed with the Auburn City School District from 1974-1990 as a School Nurse Teacher. Miller, Albertine:  Newfield - Albertine Miller, 79, formerly of 680 Trumbulls Corners Road, Newfield, died Wednesday, March 16, 1988 in Lakeside Nursing Home. She was born in Springwater, the daughter of the late Albert and Alzina Lawrence Straight. She taught at the Newfield Central School for 30 years before her retirement.  She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist and the Retired Teachers Association. She was the widow of Walter H. Phipps, Donald Ward:  Donald Ward Phipps, 68, of 8 Elmcrest Circle, Ithaca, died in Tompkins Community Hospital, Tuesday, Jan 11, 1983. He was the son of the late Walter and Gertrude Phipps. He was a control operator with New York State Electric and Gas Corp. retiring in 1970 after 17 years.  He was a chief petty officer in the Navy during World War II and had retired after more than 21 years of service in the Navy. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Ithaca, Round Hill Lodge 533 F&AM of Endicott, William Chapman Royal Arch Chapter 74 of Portsmouth, VA and Scottish Rite Valley of Binghamton.  Mr. Phipps is survived by his wife, Dorothy Adeline Phipps of Ithaca; two daughters: Barbara S. Noyes of Louisville, CO and Donna Ruth DePuy of Daharan, Saudi Arabia; a son, Lt. Commander Donald M. Rosenberg, Edward:  Edward Rosenberg, 36, of 424 Thomas Road was pronounced dead upon arrival at Tompkins Community Hospital on Monday, July 28 1986, following an apparent heart attack. He was born in New York City, son of Seymour and Carmel Shander Rosenberg. Mr. Rosenberg graduated from the University of Rhode Island and had been employed at Cornell University for the past 10 years. He was formerly director of the North Student Union and for the past two years he was a project coordinator at Cornell. He was the director of the Ellis Hollow Community Pool for the past five years and last year he organized the Labor Day Road Race for the Leukemia Society of America. In addition to his parents, who live in Malverne, Mr. Rosenberg is survived by his wife, Rita Mellekas of Ithaca, two daughters of Ithaca, a brother, William Rosenberg of Wantagh and several nieces and nephews. Rumsey, Mildred A.: Newfield – Mildred A. Rumsey, 80 of 924 Trumbull Corners Road, Newfield died early Wednesday morning, February 16, 1994 at her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Rumsey was born August 30, 1913 in Newfield, NY, the daughter of Bert L. and Elvira Holly Carpenter. She was a lifelong resident of the Newfield area and had retired from the National Cash Register Company of Ithaca, after many years. She was also a member of the Trumbulls Corners Community Church. Stewart, Orlo D.: Aurora – The Rev. Orlo D. Stewart of Poplar Ridge, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 1983 at the Mercy Rehabilitation Center, Auburn, following a long illness. Rev. Stewart was born in Beaver Dam, Ohio in 1901. He was educated at Ohio Wesleyan University and served in country parishes in Ohio, Maine and New York; retiring in 1977 as pastor of the Poplar Ridge Friend’s Meeting where he had served for 18 years. He attended Boston University School of Theology and had served as student chaplain at the Massachusetts Mental Hospital. Rev. Stewart is survived by his wife, Ruth Carpenter Stewart. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Williams, Mike Faron: Interlaken – Mike Faron Williams, 23, of Waterloo, formerly of Interlaken suffered a fatal accident while scuba diving in Seneca Lake, Wednesday, May 2, 1990. Wiltse, Frances H.: Odessa – Frances H. Wiltse, 77 of 204 College Ave., Odessa, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 1985 at Schuyler Hospital. Wright, Homer E.: – Candor – Homer E. Write, 69, of 409 Owego Road, died Wednesday, October 28, 1981 at home. He was a carpenter and a member of Local 532 of Elmira. He was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church at Candor and served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.  Mr. Wight is survived by his wife, Iva Wright of Candor, four daughters, Mary Jo Hallett of Candor, Georgia Sawyer of Newfield, Carol Kellogg of Burdett, and Nancy Wright of West Danby; two sons, Howard and James Wright, both of Candor; 15 grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and cousins. Yenei, Alexander:  Newfield – Alexander Yenei, 71, of 27 Protts Hill Road, Newfield, died Monday, December 23, 1985, at home. He was born in Ithaca, a son of the late Andrew and Julia Kara Yenei. He was the widower of Dora S. Yenei, who died February 1985. Mr. Yenei was a Town of Newfield Highway Superintendent for 17 years until his retirement and had resided in the Town of Newfield for more than 40 years. Prior to that he had been employed by the Tompkins County Highway Department. He is survived by two sisters, Helen With of Ovid, Irene Baldesweiler of New Brunswick, New Jersey and several nieces and nephews. Burial in Inlet Valley Cemetery.
