Francis Smoke Obituary

OBITUARY

Francis M Smoke died at his home in Climax township Friday, Feb. 28, 1902. Mr.
Smoke was born in Enfield, Tompkins county, N.Y., Sept. 4th, 1827 and was
married to Miss Sarah A. Wright in August 1852. They came to Michigan Sept.
1st 1852. There were born to them twelve children, ten of whom survive him:
William R. Smoke of Climax, Mrs. Agnes C. Cadwell and Mrs. Nora A. Zerby of
Battle Creek township, Elias Smoke of Battle Creek, Mrs. Minnie H. Howard of
Ellis Corners and Henry Smoke of Scotts. The three sons, Melvin F., Marcle,
and Edward D. Smoke with the youngest daughter, Miss Effie, are at home with
their mother.

Francis Smoke was the son of Jacob and Rachel Smoke who came to Michigan with
him and were for years resident of Leroy township. Mrs. Rachel Smoke died in
1856 while they were living on the L. W. Hunt's place in North Leroy.

The funeral of Mr. Smoke was held at his home March 2nd, and was conducted by
Rev. J. J. Yost of Climax. The burial was a Climax, many neighbors and friends
were in attendance.

Notes- Location is Climax, Kalamazoo County Michigan. He is buried in Prairie
Home Cemetery in Climax. The death of his mother was in nearby Leroy Township,
Calhoun County, Michigan. He was the son of Jacob Smoke and Racheal Hulse
(from his death certificate.) His wife, Sarah Wright was the daughter of Elias
Wright and Hannah Helgus (from her death certificate) Her grandparents were
Elias Wright and Sarah Fitch. Elias and Hannah are also buried in Prairie Home
Cemetery in Climax. (Their names from Elias's death certificate)
