Dec. 18, 2002 (Cemeteries)	If you've ever been to Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg, you have probably seen the large cannon that sits there. The late Andrew Scott donated information about this cannon, with a photo, before his death. We're proud to put it up on the site now. You can find a link on the Grove Cemetery page.
Dec. 12, 2002 (Cemeteries)	We have completely updated the records for Hamilton-Nelson Cemetery, in Caroline, with photos of the cemetery itself and every headstone. (Okay, there are only four graves in the cemetery, but still!) Cathy Knauff took all the photos, thanks Cathy!
Dec. 10, 2002 (School Records)	Terri Crockford sent us a wonderful photograph of the Ithaca High School from 1925, along with the names in the Graduating Classes of 1925 and 1926. Thanks Terri, for donating this material. (Link to the photo from either of these two pages.)
Dec. 02, 2002 (Star of the Month)	Congratulations to our Featured Star of the Month, Cathy Knauff! Cathy has been tirelessly updating our Ithaca City Cemeteries over the last several months. Anyone who has been there knows what a monumental task this is. It's a very large, old cemetery, located on a terrific hill. Great for the views, hard on the knees! Thanks Cathy, for all your hard work.

Oct. 31, 2002 (Star of the Month)	Congratulations to our Featured Stars of the Month, a wonderful couple, Lawrence "Beachy" and Ruth Beach! Although Beachy has contributed content to the website over the years, most of their efforts are behind the scenes, and so we wanted to make sure that they get the recognition they deserve.
Oct. 29, 2002 (Census)	FamilySearch.org now has the complete 1880 Census for the United States online. Also available are the U.K. and Canadian Censuses for 1881. You'll find a link on our Census page.
Oct. 28, 2002 (Cemeteries)	We have completely updated Yates Cemetery. It is now as complete as possible from viewing the headstone inscriptions, family records, and town clerk records for burials. You can also see a burial map, and the cleanup work that was done.

Oct. 3, 2002	Congratulations to our Featured Star of the Month, Dennis Whittaker! Over the summer Dennis has been re-setting and repairing headstones in Yates Cemetery in Slaterville Springs. To date Dennis has put in over 120 hours of volunteer labor in this project. His hard work will preserve much of the history of the people who are buried here. (Click the Yates Cemetery link to see the fully-updated records of this cemetery, a burial map, and photos of the cemetery work in progress. They are off-site now, but will be moved soon to the Tompkins County site.)

August 27, 2002	Marion Kobre sent in updates to Hayts Cemetery and Frear Cemetery in Ithaca. In Hayts, there are updates for the HOPKINS surname; in Frear, for the DENGLER, ENGLISH, MORGAN and TESTUT surnames. Thank you, Marion!
August 23, 2002	Cheryl Hall transcribed the Dumond-Dumont, Johnson and Severn surnames in the Land Deeds Index 1817-1860, a huge amount of new material. Thank you, Cheryl!
August 23, 2002	Cheryl Hall walked the King Cemetery this past summer with her mother. She transcribed their notes, and completely updated the old record. Kudos to Sarah (Christofferson) McKane and Cheryl Hall!

August 09, 2002	I recently made certain claims that the entire book (with the exception of the indexes) Landmarks of Tompkins County, was online. Well, it was very gently pointed out that I had completely missed Part II -- Biographical. This section is now there with the rest of the book, and (dare I say it?) the book is now complete.
August 1, 2002	Congratulations to our Featured Star of the Month, Carlsa King, who donated a wonder piece of history from her private collection to the Tompkins County site, Reminiscences of the Patterson Family by Leon D. Palmer. We hope to have this 100+ page document up soon.

July 10, 2002	We'd like to give a hand to a few special volunteers... This month, we begin a new section of the site: Featured Stars of the Month, as a way of acknowledging those volunteers who go the extra mile in the cemetery, seek out documents in the last stack in the library, and spend nights on their computers typing while the rest of us sleep! April 30, 2002	Cheryl Hall, our Town of Danby Coordinator, along with Sarah (Christofferson) McKane and Nina (Christofferson) McAndrews, walked the South Danby Cemetery (Old Episcopal Church Cemetery) last June and July 2001, and completely updated our records. This record is now as complete as possible, barring the discovery of old church documents. Have a look at Cheryl's commentary at the top of the file for more information about this cemetery's history.

March 13, 2002	We have assembled Landmarks of Tompkins County into a book format, so that you can move around the chapters via a Table of Contents and read it in the order it was printed if you wish. (Please note that photographs and indexes are not included.) You can now get to this valuable resource from the main page. This is a Work in Progress; we'll have more up soon.

January 15, 2002	We have a new article for the Folktales section about the Duesenberry Homestead in Dryden, which burned to the ground when it was hit by lightning. This material was donated by Janet Nash and transcribed by Terry Donlick.
January 10, 2002	The Newfield Village Cemetery has been completely revised. Cathy Knauff spent all her free time the last two summers walking this cemetery and recording the data. Janet Nash transcribed this very large record. This was a huge project and we're happy to be able to put it up on the site. Thanks to Cathy and Janet!
January 10, 2002	We have created a form to make submitting your surnames even easier. Now, instead of sending an email, just fill out the form and hit the submit button. There is a link to the form on the main menu under Surname Listings and also on the Surnames main page.
January 05, 2002	Information for the Quinn and Menzie families in Calvary Cemetery in Ithaca has been added to our files, thanks to Norm Daily and Madeline Wakeham. Our thanks to them.

UPCOMING PROJECTS
	Karen Dickson sent in some corrections to Veterans Buried in Grove Cemetery. David Cronk also sent us some corrections. We will have these in place soon.
	Catherine "Kay" Martin has donated the 1860 Census for Groton, and is in the process of transcribing it. The first section is up.
	Cheryl Hall is working on the 1825 Danby Census. The copy is very difficult to read, so this is a long-term project.
	Janet Nash has an update for Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
	Terri Crockford sent us a number of Photographs of the Cayuga Rock Salt Mine and a photo of Ithaca High in 1925, probably taken in the 1960s. We hope to have them up soon.
	Janet Nash has an extensive list of updates for Willow Glen Cemetery in Dryden.
	Mary Lou Bordwell sent in BLANCHARD updates for Groton Rural Cemetery. We'll have them up soon.
	Terri Crockford sent the list of seniors for Ithaca High School in 1925 & 1926 and a photo of Ithaca High in 1925 for our Schools section. We'll put the photograph of the high school in the Photo Album as well.
	Virginia Peterson has sent in a new batch of photographs for the photo album. We hope to have them up very soon.
