Location: About ½ mile west of the Marion Family Burying Ground. Located on Lois Lane in Commonland Community on Route 79.
Town of Ithaca, Tompkins County, NY.
Burial plot is down the hill on the lower end of Lois Lane, near the apartment numbers 54-58. At the parking lot at the left, there is a trail on the left, the burial plot is just in the woods at the beginning of the trail on the right.
Cemetery is inactive.

The following data has been recorded from a small burial site on the Commonland Community. The gravestones and foot stones found at this burial site are in considerable disarray with the gravestones flat on the ground and the foot stones still standing.
In the 1940's and 1950's, this site was located just off the edge of a tilled field that was owned by Verne C. Marion and worked by John L. Marion. The vital data in the Notes below comes from the Marion genealogy which was started in about 1923.
The Marion family spelled their surname as Merian/Mearian in early time. Changed to Marion later.

| MERIAN | BARNEY | DIED MAY 29, 1867 AGED 82 YEARS 7 MO. & 6 DAYS
Note: This is Hubert Merian, who went by the name Barney, son of Ruprecht Merrion and Anna Mary. Barney was born 27 Nov 1784 in Bergen, NJ. He was baptized 21 Apr 1785 in
Charlottenberg, NJ. He came to Tompkins County in about 1808 and was the grandfather of Dewitt Marion whose family became the prominent Marion family in the Ithaca area. There is what appears to be a foot stone engraved "B. M." for Barney Merian. There was no gravestone found here for Barney's wife, Mary Eva Mullen, but there is a foot stone engraved "M. M." which could be an indication that she is also buried at this site. Mary Eva was the daughter of William Mullen and Anna Catherine Waibl who was born 20 May 1785 in Ringwood, NJ and baptized 30 Oct 1785 in Ringwood, NJ. She died in about 1855. |

Note: This is Emma Doty, first wife of John Merian. Emma died about 2 months after the birth of their first child. There is a footstone on this site engraved "E. M." which appears to be for Emma Merian. John is buried with his second wife, Eliza Ann Blauvelt, at Hayts Cemetery. |

Note: This is Levi H., son of Henry Marion & Hannah Honness, born 5 Mar 1837, died 28 Mar 1841. No foot stone was found for Levi. This Henry & Hannah along with two other of their daughters Sarah, wife of Charles Johnston and Charlotte, wife of George Williams are buried at the Marion Family Burying Ground located about 1/2 mile further east off Slaterville Rd. |
| TURNER | FRANKLIN | son of EZRA & ANN ELIZA TURNER DIED OCT 7, 1848 AGED 1 YEAR 1 MONTH & 18 DAYS
Note: This is Franklin, son of Ezra Turner and Eliza Marion (while her real name must have been Ann Eliza, she is recorded in the genealogy simply as Eliza) daughter of Barney Marion and Mary Eva Mullen. Franklin was born 12 Aug 1847, died 1848. There is a footstone on this site engraved "F. T." for Franklin Turner. It should also be pointed out that the first child of Ezra and Eliza is recorded as Mary Turner, born 3 Sep 1845, died 6 Feb 1846. There is a foot stone on this site engraved "M. T." which could indicate that Mary Turner is also buried at this site even though no gravestone was found. |

He also notes that the earliest DOD on this burial site was 1839 while the earliest DOD from the Marion Family Burying Ground appears to be 1829. The most recent DOD at this site is 1867 while the most recent at the Marion Family Burying Ground appears to be 1880. There was a considerable period, about 28 years, during which both burial sites were being used.
Cemetery records are from walking this burial ground August 18, 2002.
