The 1825 New York State Census, Town of Danby, lists Silas Compton as well as a John Compton. Both men are between 18 and 45 years of age. There is a John Compton buried in the Danby Presbyterian Cemetery who died on May 18, 1860, 70y 11m 21d of age. Using a birth date calculator, John Compton would have been born about May 28, 1789, and Silas Compton would have been born about April 1, 1798. Perhaps Silas and John were brothers and came together to New York to settle in Danby.

Silas Compton also appears in the 1830 and 1840 US Federal Census, Town of Danby. In the 1850 US Federal Census, Town of Danby the following information on Silas and his family is found:
Silas Compton, 50, b. New Jersey
Mary Compton, 48, b. Vermont
Charles Compton, 23
Amos Compton, 20
Betsy Compton, 16
Lewis Compton, 12
Leonard Compton, 4
Richard Compton, 25
Jerusha Compton, 19 (Richard's wife?)
Fanny Pitts, 6.

A search of the LDS records revealed a Silas Compton, b. March 31, 1798 in Wantage, Sussex, New Jersey to John and Abigail Hanes Compton. This Silas Compton was baptized in 1799 at the Clove Valley Dutch Reformed Church, Wantage, Sussex, New Jersey. Perhaps these are the records for the Silas Compton who is buried in Danby; the age and the state of birth seem to fit.
