Marion Family Burial Ground

Located On The Six Mile Creek Vineyard Property, 1551 Slaterville Road. This is located in the back section of the vineyard. Burial ground has a nice fence around it, with a bird feeder and enclosed benches. A very peaceful setting.

Town of Ithaca, Tompkins County, NY.

Burial Ground has had a new burial in 1995.

Note: This burial ground was credited as being in the Town of Dryden by the recordings of Dora Pope Worden in the 1920s. A visit to this burial ground was made April 11th 2002 by Janet M. Nash & Cathy Knauff and found this to be the same as the Marion Family Burying Ground recorded at the earlier date. Both records are added here, the records of Dora Pope Worden and those of the April 2002 recordings. This cemetery has been restored by the property owners and is being maintained. They have done a wonderful job in keeping the burial ground a memorial for those buried here. The Marion family spelled their surname as Merian/Mearian in early times. Changed spelling to Marion later.

Sarah, wife of Charles Johnston, died Dec. 3, 1868 aged 25 yrs., 4 months Gone but not forgotten	Sarah, wife of Charles Johnson, died Dec. 3, 1868 age 36 yrs., 4 mo _dy (Note: Johnston on headstone from inscription reading in 2002)	Sarah E. (Marion) dau. of Henry & Hannah (Honness) Marion
Henry Marion, died Sept. 10, 1854, age 46 yrs 11 mo 18 da Let me die the death of the righteous and my lost and he like theirs	Same reading in 1920s	Henry Marion/Merian was the son of "Barney" & Mary Eva (Mullen) Merian, he was born Sept. 22, 1807. Note: Barney Merian is buried about ½ mile down the road to the west in the Barney Merian Family Graveyard. Henry and Hannah have a son Levi H. buried in this other graveyard.
Hannah, wife of Henry Marion, died Feb. 14, 1880, age 77 yrs., 4 dys. Mother we miss thee, but our loss is thy gain	(Note: Hannah's headstone was, missed in the 1920s recording)	Hannah (Honness) wife of Henry Marion was the daughter of Matthias & Elizabeth (Pew) Honness
Pia Battistella Barone 1909 - 1995 A beautiful women of iron resolve and gentle heart.	New burial	This is that last burial in the cemetery at this time (2003)
Margaret, wife of John Besemer, died April 25, 1845, age 57 yrs., 3 mo., 19 dys. In peace I am sleeping here, from all my toils at rest; prepare with me to appear	Same reading in 1920s	No other information on Margaret.
Charlotte, wife of Garret Schoonmaker, died Oct. 21, 183?, age 26 yrs., 1 mo., 20 days	Charlotte, wife of Garret Schoomaker, died Oct. 24, 1832 age 26 yrs., 1 mo. 20 dys.	No other informaiton on Charlotte.
In Memory of Agnes, wife of Daniel Woodruff who died August 4, 1829, age 78 yrs., 6 mo.	Same reading as in 1920s	On back of headstone; A. W. Aged 78 yrs., 6 mo.
(Note: not found in 2002)	In Memory of William Parcel who died Sept. 20, 1830 age 24 yrs., 6 mos., 4 dys.	No other information on William.
(Note: not found in 2002)	Susan, dau. of D. T. & Electa Houltstander, died Oct. 1, 1844 age 15 yrs., 6 mos., 4 dys.	No other information on Susan.
