Sweazey Cemetery

Sweazey Road, Lansing, Tompkins County, New York
Cemetery is obsolete.

Cemetery is located by the Cornell Orchards, near Lansing Station on the south side of Sweazey Road and below No. 97, in the corner of the orchard fence.

As written by Isabelle Parish in the 1960s: There are 3-4 graves and it has a caretaker. We have been told that Thomas (1808-1897) and Jane (1810-1891) are thought to be the first of the family here. They had several babes that did not live long and that they were buried in the field, and that Emma SWEAZEY, the last of the family to live there, had the bodies removed to the Lansingville Cemetery where others of the family are buried.

Lansingville Cemetery burial records and headstone readings confirm the burials of Thomas (Feb 18, 1808 - Nov 23, 1897) and Jane (Sep 29, 1810 - Dec 22, 1891) SWAYZE (note difference in spelling) in Lot 47, Part 2 of the new record; and, on Lot 2S, Part 1 of the new record, burial records noted that it was thought that two small children were moved here from another site, but no markers were moved. It is likely that these are the burials that had originally been in the Sweazey Family burial plot.

As of 2010, there is no visible sign that this cemetery exists today.
