Strong Family Cemetery |
Also known as: Brotherton Farm Cemetery A family cemetery located on what was once the homestead of Benajah Strong's youngest son, Simeon P. Strong, and where Simeon's daughter, Mrs. J. W. Pratt, lived in later years. Located in Lansingville, in back of the old Brotherton House at 424 Lansingville Road. Cemetery is on private property. Directions: Traveling north on Lansingville Road, second house on the left after passing the intersection with Dublin Road. Town of Lansing, Tompkins County, NY. d. May 22, 1836, m. 1st Jane COCHRANE, 2nd Abigail POWERS, Lt, CT. He was the son
of Adino STRONG and Deborah PRIME. Original Settler. Capt. Benajah STRONG enlisted in the French war and was a captain of a volunteer company of soldiers in the Revolutionary war. He was present at the burning of Danbury, CT. He removed about 1782 to Athens, Greene Co., NY, where he bought the confiscated farm of a tory officer, and the rights and privileges of the ferry between Athens and Hudson. He removed afterwards to the Great Bend in the Susquehanna, near Binghamton, NY and after three years residence there to Ithaca, NY; removing after two years to Lansing (then Milton) where for a dollar per acre he bought 2,000 acres of land. He married in 1818 for his second wife, Mrs. Abigail (NEWLAND) POWERS, widow of Elder Lemuel POWERS, a Baptist clergyman at Stillwater, NY. She was the mother of the first wife of President Millard FILLMORE and was born February 22, 1758. She died February 21, 1850 in Irving, Chautauqua County, NY. |

died July 11, 1815, in the 74th year of her age. | From the Strong Genealogy: Jane COCHRANE was the daughter of Samuel COCHRANE of Woodbury, Connecticut. She was born in 1742 and married Benajah Strong on February 3, 1761. Benajah and Jane (COCHRANE) STRONG had eleven known children:
1. Truman, b. 1762, a Revolutionary solider under his father, d. in the service of disease (no military records have been found). |

LOBDELL | Mark | died March 25, 1876, age 4 mos. | Child of Hiram & Mary L. LOBDELL. Another source has given name as Mary and date of death as March 6, 1878. In the 1850 census for Lansing, Hiram LOBDELL, 4 yrs. old, b. Tompkins Co. is in the household with parents, Ebenezer (b. abt. 1802 in Orange Co.) and Phebe (b. abt. 1808 in Cayuga Co.). In the 1870 census for Lansing, Hiram, age 23, is living with Ebenezer, mother not listed. Other members of the household are Lewis (Hiram's brother), age 20, Mary L., age 26, Fredonicia, age 4, Smith, age 2, and William, age 7/12. In the 1880 census for Lansing, Hiram remains in the household with Ebenezer. Hiram reported his marital status as widowed; his daughter, Fredricka, age 14 is also in the household. | |

They removed to Kansas where Jane died, and he married 2nd Harriet EGAN, widow of Edward STRONG, son of Simeon Prime STRONG and Phoebe GOODWIN. | |

EGAN, Esq., of Utica, married Phebe, d/o Col. Simeon P. STRONG, of and at Lansing, November 17, 1829. There is a Charles C. EGAN in the 1830 census for Lansing. In the household is 1 male 10-15 yrs., 1 male 20-30 yrs., and 1 female 20-30 yrs. Not found in 1840 census. |
