Family records of the Johnson & Crispell Families. Gladys Cornell Whitted's, Cornell family records donated by her daughter, Madeline Hopkins. John Yates, decsendant of Chester Yates. Updated and corrected from walking the cemetery to check the headstone inscriptions. There are still unmarked graves that are not recorded.

A clean up of this cemetery was started in the spring of 2002, with headstone repair being over the summer months. (Summer of 2002).

A total to date of 35 headstones were found that had fallen and were under sod. A total of over 220 plus hours have been spent clearing brush, trees and debris removal to restore this cemetery.

Volunteers at this time are: Janet Nash, Steve Nash, Randy Crispell, Greg Crispell, Paul Crispell, & Cathy Knauff, Dennis Whittaker & Jessie Davis. Many headstones had fallen and were in need of repair. Dennis Whittaker has been doing the repair on the damaged headstones and resetting them. He has done an outstanding job in restoring the headstones. Thank you Dennis for all your hard work.

A project to collect donations has been underway to help pay for the expenses to restore this cemetery, and to maintain what we have restored. Thank you goes out to all of you for your volunteer work in this project.

At this time we would like to thank the following for their donations that helped greatly to restore this cemetery: Linda Ely, Florence Starr, Janet Nash, Dennis Whittaker.

In reviewing all the inscriptions I find in the months Aug. - Dec. in the year of 1861 this little town lost 12 people, mostly children to some illness. 7 of these deaths were in the month of Oct. The families that lost their loved ones were that of the following families: Darlin, Eighmey, James, Lane & Yates.

The Cornell Family is also buried here with no headstones to be found. (6 grave's)

History note:

SLATERVILLE. -- This small village is situated on Six-Mile Creek, on the northern line of the town. Families should properly be mentioned, as residents early in that vicinity were John ROBISON, Robert FREELAND, Lemuel YATES, Francis NORWOOD and others.

In 1816 or 1817 John ROBISON and Mr. HEDGES built a tannery and operated it a few years; it stood on the site of the present barn of Carn's Hotel. ROBISON and HEDGES were succeeded in the business by Milo and James HEATH, who continued it many years. About the same time (1816/1817) Isaac MILLER built a frame store across the road from the tannery and began trade; he died soon afterwards. (his grave is found in this cemetery, he died in 1818.)

You are our visitor since October 24, 2002.
Thanks for stopping by!
