Obituaries from the Ithaca Journal

Mrs. Sarah J. Stearns--
Mrs. Sarah J. Stearns, 71, widow of Eugene Stearns of West Groton, died February 1 (1921) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marion Darling, 825 North Aurora street, where she was being cared for. Besides her daughter, she leaves three sisters, Mrs. Chester Millen and Mrs. Emma Millen of this city, and Mrs. Arnold Hopkins of Dryden, and a brother, Mr. Frize, who lives in Richford. The funeral was held February 3 in West Groton, from the Stearns home. Burial was in the Stearns family cemetery.

William Horten (William Horton)--
William Horten, 85, died yesterday in Butler, PA. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Frank McCane and Mrs. Earl Bishop, both of Butler. Mr. Horten had lived in the town of Newfield the greater part of his life until a few years ago, when he went to Butler to live with his daughters. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal Church in Newfield. Interment will be in Seabring Cemetery.

Mrs. Olive F. Howes--
Mrs. Olive Fisher Howes, wife of Herbert S. Howes, died Sunday July 18 at her home on the Trumansburg Road. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church, Spencer, at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Prayer service at the late home Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock.

Nelson Adams--
Nelson Adams, aged 75 years, died at his home about four miles west of Newfield village at 11 o'clock last night. Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Miles Armstrong of Newfield and Mrs. DeWitt Payne of Ithaca; one brother, W.E. Adams of Whitney Point; two sisters, Mrs. John Cady of Whitney Point, and Mrs. Lafayette Rumsey of LLewis, Kan.The funeral will be held at 2 pm Tuesday from the late home.

Frederick H. Brown--
Frederick H. Brown, aged 43 years, died at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home in Conklin, near Binghamton. He is survived by his wife and mother; one son, Edward Knoll Brown; also by one sister, Mrs. Charels Johnston of Jersey City and one brother, Charles Brown of Ithaca.

Arthur W. Perry--
Word has been received here of the death of Arthur W. Perry on July 14, in St. Joseph's hospital, Denver. He is survived by a wife and daughter, Josephine. Mr. Perry was well known here, having graduated from the Ithaca High School in 1890. He was prominent as an athlete.

Stephen J. Horton's Demise Came Unexpectedly--
Stephen J. Horton, an old and well known resident of Trumbull's Corners, was taken suddenly ill while husking corn in the field Wednesday morning and died before medical assistance could be obtained. He had not been in good health for a long time, but appeared as well as usual when he left home to go to work. He was 75 years of age. Mr. Horton is survived by his widow, one daughter, Lida Osterhout of Binghamton, and one son, Harry, who resides at the homestead. He also leaves a host of friends who held him in great esteeem.

Joseph Fish--
Joseph Fish, also a prominent resident of Trumbull's Corners, quietly passed away Thursday at the age of 78 years. He leaves a widow and eight children, four daughters and four sons. They are Mrs. William Holman, Ithaca; Mrs. J. A Everheart, Newfield; Mrs. Alta Longcoy, Newfield; Mrs. Ora Cornish, Ithaca; Charles, George, Henry of Ithaca, and Edward of Newfield. The funeral will be held at the Trumbulls Corners Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday at 2 PM.
