Circa 1875 - Trip to Ithaca
H. came here after the evening meeting to go with us in the morning. 28th - Hiram, Daniel, Charlie & Charlie Hull, Lucy, Mary & I arose early & ate our breakfast and started at about six o'clock for Ithaca. The day was cool, and we had a delightful ride. We arrived there a little past 9 called at Cousin John Tuthill's and left Mary there to rest during the day. We then proceeded to the Gorge and wound our way around the rocks & romantic steps & footpaths enjoying the splendid scene around us. We ate our dinner at the top most fall, called Trip Hammer fall, in the little picnic grove, where Clara, D. & I, spent our morning nearly two years ago. After resting a while we went to the university - buildings and went through many of the rooms. Spent quite a long time in the museum and saw many, many things of interest - Among the many, was a Mastodon or the skeleton of one, which was the greatest thing that I ever saw, that ever lived. We were tired when we got back to Josey's, but had a good little visit and our tea there. Clara was there also. We started for home a little after six. p.m. and arrived home late in the evening, tired but - well satisfied with our trip, nothing happened to mar our pleasures. 29th - We bade Lucy & Charlie goodby, at the Depot and saw them leave in the train for home.
