Mrs. Florence C. B. CONGER, 85, of Groton, widow of Senator Benn CONGER, died Monday, Aug. 13, 1945, in Cortland Hospital after a long illness. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groton. Surviving are a son, Laurence J. CONGER of Batavia, Ill., a daughter Mrs. Percy D. MORGAN of Groton, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. MORGAN, 215 W. Cortland St., Groton. The Rev. A. E. Weaver will officate. Burial will be in Groton Rural Cemetery.

Mrs. Lollta H. GEORGIA, 54, of Forest Home, died Monday, Aug. 13, 1945, in Memorial Hospital. Besided her husband, Frederick R. GEORGIA, she leaves a daughter, Miss Nathalle GEORGIA at home; a son, Sergeant Daniel GEORGIA of the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at Bogue Field, Cherry Point, N. C., and a sister, Mrs. Marian GOODWIN of North Dartmouth, Mass. There will be no funeral services. The body was taken to Rochester today for cremation.

Miss Jessie May DEAN died Monday night, Aug. 13, 1945, at her home, 105 W. Clinton St. A former school teacher, she would be observed her 73rd birthday in September. A niece, Miss Julia HASLETT, resides at 804 E. State St. Several other nieces and nephews survive. Miss DEAN was a member of the First Methodist Church. William E. CHATTERTON, 91, of 3 Cayuga St., Trumansburg, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 1945. He is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Lilla COVERT of Trumansburg and Mrs. P. T. E. A. COOPER, 95, a lifelong resident of Caroline and Dryden, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 1945, in Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born Dec. 21, 1849, in Brooktondale, the son of John and Adelia COOPER. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Eugene HULSLANDER of Dryden; ? grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Louise DANN of Newark Valley. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Strong Memorial Chapel, Dryden by the Rev. W. W. Strite of Varna. Burial will be in Caroline Center.
KELLER, Benjamin F.
Benjamin F. KELLER, 69, of West Dryden, a retired farmer, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 1945, after a heart attack. He was born Nov. 12, 1875 in Preble County, Ohio, the son of the late George and Mary MURRAY KELLER.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret SMITH; 3 daughters, Mrs. Blanche CHAMBERLAIN and Mrs. Bert NOBLE of Groton RD, and Mrs. Frances SMITH of Freeville; 2 sons, Azel KELLER of Cortland, and Benjamin F. KELLER of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Murray of Franklin, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Bertha WRIGHT of Hamilton, Ohio; 21 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a step son, Arthur Morse RIPPEY of Iowa.
Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. today at the Perkins Funeral Home, Dryden, by the Rev. Edward Howe of the Virgil Methodist Church. Further services and committal will be held Thursday in Summithill, Ohio.
MUNSON, Charles C.
Charles C. MUNSON, 74, a retired farmer and former superintendent of highways for the Town of Caroline, died Friday, March 29, 1957, at his home in Brooktondale. He is survived by two nephews, Ernest MUNSON of Caroline and Edwin H. MUNSON of Breesport; and a niece, Mrs. Esther MUNSON of Pine Valley.

GLUCK, James Frazer
James Frazer GLUCK died at the Murray Hill hotel in this city (New York) today. Mr. GLUCK was a prominent Buffalo lawyer and an ex-trustee of Cornell University. He has been ill for the last six months and seriously so during the last few days. His body will be taken to Buffalo. Mr. GLUCK was a graduate of Cornell, and his student history here is one of the most brilliant in the University records.
He prepared for Cornell in Upper Canada College, and entered the University in 1870. He was prominently identifed with almost every important movement of his class. He was a charter member of the local chapter of the Psi Upsilon Society, being one of the students chiefly instrumental in bringing it to Cornell. In his senior year Mr. GLUCK was president of his class.
Notwithstanding his popularity and his great activity in the social branches of student life he maintained throughout a high standard of scholarship. The summer of his graduation he competed successfully for the Woodford prize.
Leaving Ithaca in 1874 he went ultimately to Buffalo where he soon distinguished himself in his profession. He became one of the senior partners of the firm which does the law business of the New York Central Railroad. In addition to this he had an extensive and valuable private practice.
Mr. GLUCK was conceded in Buffalo to be one of the finest if not the finest orator in the city. He was counted among the best pleaders at the bar in Western New York. Within the last few years he became known as the "Demosthenes of Buffalo."
He was also well known in literary and dramatic circles. A short time ago he was elected an honorary member of the Players' Club in New York City. A law book written by him has become so popular that several successive editions have already been necessary. For some years he had been preparing a translation of Marcus Aurelius.
For a number of years Mr. GLUCK was alumni trustee of Cornell, and his report as such is known to be one of the finest ever prepared for the University. At the time of his death he was a trustee of the Buffalo public library. The autograph collection which he presented to that institution is one of the best in America.
Mr. GLUCK leaves a wife, who is the daughter of Professor Charles Mollen TYLER, and two children.

G. Fred BANFIELD, 71, of Candor, died at midnight Thursday at the Packer Hospital at Sayre, Pa., following a major operation. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Fred JOHNSON of this city. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the late residence in Candor.

Funeral services for Charles K. BEARD of 408 Dryden Rd., who died at his home Saturday, May 21, 1955, were held Monday afternoon in the Gilbert Memorial Home. The Rev. Henry G. Budd, minister of the First Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Willow Glen Cemetery. Bearers were Boyd LETTS SR., Boy LETTS JR., Richard LETTS, and Gerald LEBARRON.
PARKER, Dr. Samuel J.
Dr. Samuel J. PARKER, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Ithaca, died at his residence on Parker street, at three o'clock Sunday morning. While the news of his death was a surprise to many in the community, it has been known to his friends that he has been in a failing condition for many months and that the end could not be far off.
Dr. PARKER was seventy-eight years of age. He was the son of Rev. Samuel PARKER, who was the first white man to cross the Rocky Mountains, and who with Marcus WHITMAN as missionaries to Oregon, accomplished a great work in the civilization of that then distant region.
Dr. PARKER was himself educated as a clergyman having been graduated at Untou Theological Seminary; but after preaching a few years, his voice proved unequal to the strain, and he has since been known as a practicing physician, having been graduated at the medical school now called the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
During the war of the rebellion he was engaged as a surgeon under the auspices of the Christian commission, and in that capacity in which he especially excelled, accompanied the armies of the north in many of the great battles of the war. Prior to that time, he was for two or three years the ship surgeon in the United States flagships stationed at Mobile.
He was a man of varied attainment and wide learning. Few men could speak with equal intelligence on so large a ranges of subjects. His public addresses, and his remarks on various occasions, were always fluently expressed in elegant diction and full of interesting facts. He was one of the oldest, if not the oldest member of the Presbyterian church in Ithaca, and for two generations has been identified with all the interests of the city, particularly those that pertained to education and religion.
His aged wife, and one daughter, Miss Florence PARKER, survive him.
The funeral will be held at the chapel of the Presbyterian church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Mrs. Sadie A. ZIMMER, 75, of Academy St., Spencer, died today, Monday, Nov. 26, 1956, at the home of her son in that village. She was a resident of Spencer for 47 years.
Besides her son, she is survived by her husband, George ZIMMER; three daughters, Mrs. John WHITMARSH, Mrs. Ellery STRUBLE and Mrs. Edward KELSEY, all of Spencer; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Georgia WRIGHT of Ithaca, and a niece and several nephews and cousins. NISSEN, Norman
Student Dies After Ascent of Mt. Marcy
The frozen body of a Cornell student was carried down Mt. Marcy today, about 30 hours after he collapsed while on a hike, the Associated Press reported today. Norman NISSEN, 28, of Phillipsport, Sullivan County, died Saturday night in sleeping bag near the summit of the state's highest peak. A coroner's examination was scheduled for today to determine the cause of death.
Three forest rangers and two volunteers carried the body on a deer carrier. Another Cornell student, Timothy G. BOND, 20, of Kensington, Md., was hiking with NISSEN Saturday night when the latter collapsed. BOND give account....
The two were walking apart from other members of the hiking party. BOND and NISSEN had reached the summit and were descending. Suddenly NISSEN said he was losing his sense of balance. Then he collapsed. BOND tried to carry NISSEN, unconscious but still alive, down the mountain. The temperature was 20 below zero and at places the snow was waist deep. BOND finally gave up and placed NISSEN in a sleeping bag. BOND went off for help. He found some other members of the party. With Donald MOORE, 25, a student at Cortland State Teachers College, he returned to the spot where NISSEN was lying. NISSEN was dead. The party went down the mountain again and summoned help. The rangers set out late Sunday afternoon. Eight from Cornell....
In the party, which had begun hiking after Thanksgiving dinner in the Lake Placid area, were eight Cornell students and one alumnus from the Cornell Outing Club, four Cortland State Teachers College students and three students from Syracuse University.
Forest rangers from Lake Colden investigated, and they were to be joined by State Police Sunday night. The full hiking party was to spend the night at Lake Colden near the base of Mt. Marcy and members of the Cornell Outing Club were to bring the body from this inaccessible region to the town of North Creek.
NISSEN, a member of the Class of 1958, lived at 410 Dryden Rd. American Born.... He was born in Audubon, Iowa, Aug. 11, 1928. He spent his childhood and early youth in Denmark where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nis NISSEN, now live at Ommelvejan, Marstel. His only relatives in this country are Mrs. E. ROBER of Phillipsport, with whom he lived and a brother, Arne NISSEN of Cobleskill, a graduate of Cornell in 1953, and assistant county agricultural agent in Schoharie County.
He was an outstanding student and last summer was enrolled in the Graduate School as a Mark Morris Foundation student fellow. He worked on a research project concerning leptospirosis in dogs in the Department of Pathology and Bacterology of the Veterinary College. Completion of the project after he received the D.V.M. degree would have entitled him also to a graduate degree from Cornell.
He served four years in Germany with the U.S. Air Force and was also U.S. Army interpreter in the interrogation of prisoners. He returned to the United States in 1951 and worked a year as an advanced breed registry supervisor before entering the College of Agriculture at Cornell.

Mrs. Fred B. VAN ETTEN, 61, died early this morning at her home in Danby, after an eight-months illness. She leaves her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Herbert T. MUZZY, and two grandchildren, Lura Marie and Frances VAN ETTEN MUZZY, of Danby; four sisters, Mrs. Aaron BAKER of Brookton, Mrs. Isaac P. POLLING of South Danby, Mrs. Willias E. BUTLER of Ithaca and Mrs. Eugene L. SHEPARD of Van Etten; four brothers, Fred E. DORN, Ed R. DORN of the Coddington road, Judd E. DORN of Newfield and Olin A. DORN of this city. John (Pat) ROACH, 59, of 517 Elm St. Extension, died at his home Sunday, May 22, 1955, after a heart attack. He had been employed for 34 years in the Morse Chain Co. shipping department. A veteran of World War I, he was also a member of Cayuga Lodge 1607, International Assn. Of Macbinists. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence H. ROACH.

Rev. E. E. KNAPP, 67, Dead; Prominent Baptist Clergyman
Rev. E. E. KNAPP, 67, of Etna died early this morning. The funeral will be held at 1 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, July 27, at the Etna Baptist Church. Several of the local pastors will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot at Pooleville, near Hamilton.
Mr. KNAPP is survived by his widow: Mrs. Anna KNAPP; two sons, Merle of Etna and LaFayette of Erin; four grandchildren; one brother, L. W. KNAPP of Earleville and two sisters, Mrs. Emma KINNEY of Earleville and Mrs. J. A. WARREN of Medina, O. Mr. and Mrs. KNAPP and two sons bought their farm home near Willow Glen nearly 16 years ago after Mr. KNAPP had resigned his pastorate of a prominent Baptist Church in Rochester. There was soon a vacancy in the pulpit of the Etna Baptist Church and Mr. KNAPP has served that church with faithfulness and devotion until a few weeks ago. All of this time he has also served as a rural mail carrier over one of the most rugged routes in the county. He was a graduate of Colgate University and Colgate Theological Seminary and with a natural ability for his congregation sermons far beyond the ordinary.

Clayton J. BOWER, 94, died Thursday evening, May 26, 1955, after a brief illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Suzie BROWN, Sweazey Rd., Ludlowville. A lifelong resident of Lansing, he resided on the Lansingville Rd. He was a lifelong and oldest member of the Lansingville Grange.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella BOWER, to whom he would have been married 70 years on Memorial Day; a daughter, Mrs. BROWN; a grandson, William BOWER of Ithaca; five great granddaughters; two great great grandchildren and a nephew, Leslie B. TOWNSEND of Ithaca.

Mrs. Alice Elizabeth MURNIGHAN NITTLER of 66 Colt St., Geneva, died Thursday evening, May 26, 1955, in Geneva Hospital. A graduate of the E. J. Myer Hospital Buffalo, she had been previous to her marriage, a member of the nursing staff at Tompkins County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the College Club, Newcomers Club and Ceries Club in Geneva.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy W. NITTLER, two sons, Joseph William and David Gerard NITTLER of Geneva; her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth MURNIGHAN and two brothers, Minor J. and William E. MURNIGHAN all of Ithaca, and several aunts and uncles.
Friends may call at her mother's home, 1044 Danby Rd., Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Funeral services for Loving HARRIS of 107 Hillside Drive, who died May 25, 1955, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church instead of in the Wagner Funeral Home as previously announced. Friends may call this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, 421 N. Aurora St.
ELLISON, Mrs. Martha Jane
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Jane ELLISON of West Slaterville, who died May 22, 1955, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Wagner Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Smith of the Seventh Day Adventists officiating. Bearers were Joseph WILLIAMS, Hans THURNHEER, Arnold BORGERSEN, Bruce BORGERSEN, Ralph HARRIS and Walter MILLER. Robert DOUGLAS was honorary bearer. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
SHULMAN, Cecil
Funeral services for Cecil SHULMAN of 512 E. Seneca St., who died May 25, 1955, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Herson Funeral Home with Rabbi Felix Aber officiating. Bearers were Morris and Jason ACKERMAN, Nathan MULANSKY, Marvin LISKEN, James LEVENBERRY and Arnold MULLER. Burial was in Lake View Cemetery.
OXLEY, George A.
George A. OXLEY of Halseyville, Trumansburg RD, died unexpectedly at his home this morning, May 23, 1955, after a heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Velma A. OXLEY; two sons, Kennneth OXLEY of Detroit, Mich., and Everett OXLEY of Wayne, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Grace BRUSHABER of Saginaw, Mich.; seven grandchildren; a brother, Elmer OXLEY of Spencer, Iowa, several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Cambridge, Neb., Lodge, F. and A. Masons.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Samuel Rhode Funeral Home, Trumansburg, with the Rev. Warren G. Babcock of the Trumansburg Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Detroit, Mich. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
LYON, Mrs. A. L. (April 19, 1924)
LYON, Mrs. A. L., 58, Wife of Former Grocer, Commits Suicide By Asphyxiation at Her Home on North Aurora Street--In Poor Health. The second suicide within a week was recorded for this morning when Mrs. Cora Belle LYON, 58, wife of A. L. LYON, former groceryman, ended her life by asphyxiation.
Mrs. LYON was around as usual early this morning, but shortly after 9 o'clock went upstairs in her home at 1109 North Aurora street, and shut herself in a room. She attached a tube to a gas jet and placed one end in her mouth, then laid down. Some time later her absence and the odor of gas attracted attention, and a search revealed her dead in the upper room. A call was sent in for the ambulance and a physician summoned, but too late, as she was beyond aid when found.
At one time Mrs. LYON was a patient at the Willard State Hospital, and it was declared today that on two or three occasions she had attempted to end her life.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Waide A. LYON; and three brothers, Charles BUCK of Groton, Clarence BUCK of Ludlowville, and Alson BUCK of East Lansing. Funeral services will be held from the home on Tuesday at 3 o'clock, with Rev. Leslie M. Gould officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery.
PARKHURST, Mrs. Elizabeth (April 1924)
Mrs. Elizabeth PARKHURST, 71, died Wednesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah COREY, 211 Elk St. Surviving are four other daughters, Mrs. Ada CROUCH of Fulton, Mrs. George HUNTLEY of Solvay, Mrs. Joseph DUDLEY of Syracuse and Mrs. Leona LAWS of Fulton; one son, Frederick PARKHURST of Fulton; two brothers, Frederick ALMY of Fulton, and George ALMY of Michigan, 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Prayer services will be held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. COREY, at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Cornell & Clements, undertakers will take the body to Fulton for funeral services and burial at 3:30 o'clock in Mount Adna.
OATES, Mrs. Margaret
Mrs. Margaret OATES of 423 W. Buffalo St., widow of James E. OATES, died late Tuesday evening, October 26, 1948, at her home after a long illness. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Mary OATES, of Ithaca. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Friends may call at the home.
MABEE, John
Funeral services for John MABEE of 107 Fulton St., who died early Sunday morning, Oct. 24, 1948, under the wreckage of an automobile in which he was riding when it went out of control on Esty Hill, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Shea Funeral Home. The Rev. Cuthbert R. ROWE, pastor of the State Street Methodist Church, officiated. Bearers were Robert HOWE, Marvin HOLT, Robert CORRINGTON, Frank HAWVER, Paul BOLAND and Louis VOLPICELLI. Burial was in Lake View Cemetery.
NASH, Pvt. Harlowe F.
Funeral services for Pvt. Harlowe F. NASH, who died in Germany July 9, 1945, of a fractured skull suffered in a vehicle accident, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the family plot at Cayuta Cemetery. The body will arrive at the Gilbert Memorial Home, 125 E. Buffalo St., Thursday evening.
Born in Newfield, Sept. 3, 1916, he was graduated from the Ithaca High School, Class of 1935, and was inducted in the armed forces with one of the first contingents at Berkeley, Calif. Before going to Germany he served for 2 years in Alaska.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Grace O. NASH of Caroline; five sisters, Mrs. Thelma BLACK, Mrs. Pauline BROWN and Miss Ina NASH of Caroline, Mrs. Laura WELCH of Owego and Mrs. Alberta DECHELLIS of Ithaca; six brothers, Zane, Robert, Mark and Gerald of Caroline, Archie of Ithaca and Marvin of California.
Military services will be conducted by the Finger Lakes Post 961, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Post 221, American Legion.
